Taylor Parizo<p>Unraid has been great so far. I only have a single 16TB drive in now while I setup a lot of applications and then I'll move over the other 4 drives and configure parity. </p><p>Unraid will be a main network NAS and the goal is to get traefik and cloudflare tunnels setup for full selfhosting capabilities. I'm thinking nextcloud and immich to start.<br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/selfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosted</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/nas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nas</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a></p>
Taylor Parizo<p>Spent my Friday evening at Micro Center and it was a night well spent. The NAS is about to get a massive overhaul once my case arrives. Going with the Fractal Design Define 7 XL to fit numerous drives and a GTX 1070 for Plex transcoding. </p><p>Oh and Unraid to manage it all. <br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/nas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nas</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/selfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosted</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a></p>

I’d love to go back to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ansible" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ansible</span></a> running everything. But there’s something tempting about a full blown hypervisor under the hood that appeals to me.</p>
Andreas Gohr<p>let me extend this question to <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/truenas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>truenas</span></a> (I accidentally mixed it up in my head with <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a>). so why go with truenas instead of just debian + zfs/btrfs?</p>
Andreas Gohr<p>more specifically, why did you pick <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a> over a <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/zfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zfs</span></a> or <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/btrfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>btrfs</span></a> solution?</p>
Andreas Gohr<p>people who recently recommended <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a> for a custom <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/nas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NAS</span></a>... why did you decide to use it? what's making it worth it to you?</p>
MidniteMikeWrites<p>In the past year I've deployed 40+ services on my network. Think I've too eagerly ran headfirst into the pains of network management. Now I got Proxmox running to play with VMs. I need to start documenting more, lol. <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/network" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>network</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/docker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>docker</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a></p>
MidniteMikeWrites<p>I finally got <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/proxmox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>proxmox</span></a> working! Crazy to think this journey started 5 years ago with me building a PC then installing <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a> 2 years later lol.</p>

<a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/OpenMediaVault" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenMediaVault</span></a>? <a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/TrueNAS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrueNAS</span></a>? Gavin Campbell<p>My flash drive in my Unraid server was going bad so went down the road of replacing it. <br>Ordered multiple sets of different flash drives from amazon and non of them would work because they had no GUID. <br>Any Unraid recommended drives were no longer available. Anders Thoresson<p>Kind of blown away. 24 hours ago I had never assembled a computer from separate parts or hosted a <a href="https://thoresson.social/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> server. </p><p>Now my <a href="https://thoresson.social/tags/Unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Unraid</span></a> installation is tugging along, with my MacBook using it as a backup target, with AdGuard serving the home wifi, and remote access enabled thanks to <a href="https://thoresson.social/tags/Tailscale" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tailscale</span></a>.</p>
Mika<p>I've managed to get <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/OpenMediaVault" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#OpenMediaVault</a> working on my <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/RaspberryPi" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#RaspberryPi</a> (running <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/Raspbian" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Raspbian</a><span> Lite) and the performance seems pretty impressive! Despite relying on USB storage for the SSDs.<br><br>This is my first time running a </span><a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/NAS" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#NAS</a> on the Pi, on <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/OMV" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#OMV</a>, not using <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/ZFS" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#ZFS</a> or <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/RAID" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#RAID</a> but rather an <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/Unraid" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Unraid</a> like solution, 'cept, <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/FOSS" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#FOSS</a> called <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/SnapRAID" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#SnapRAID</a> in combination with <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/mergerfs" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mergerfs</a> (the drives themselves are simply <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/EXT4" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#EXT4</a><span>).<br><br>So far, honestly, so good. I got 2x 1TB SSDs for data, and another 1TB SSD for parity. Don't have a backup for the data themselves atm, but I do have a scheduled backup solution (</span><a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/RaspiBackup" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#RaspiBackup</a>) setup for the OS itself (SD card). It's also got <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/Timeshift" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Timeshift</a><span> for creating daily snapshots.<br><br>I'm not </span><i>out of the woods</i> yet though, cos after this comes the (somewhat) scary part, deploying <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/Immich" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Immich</a> on the Pi lol. I really could just deploy it in my <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/Proxmox" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Proxmox</a> <a href="https://sakurajima.social/tags/homelab" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#homelab</a>, and I wouldn't have to worry about system resources or hardware transcoding, etc. but I really wanna experiment this 'everything hosted/contained in 1 Pi' <i>concept</i>.</p>

Xap Mapcase<p>Linux people - anyone conversant with Unraid os? Particularly 32bit version 5.0.6?
