"consider users over authors over implementors" is key design principle of the web.
Yet, I struggle to find a Google-approved way to use user Stylesheets on Chrome. Stylus looks deprecated because of Manifest v3, and the performance are very bad (related?). I'm surprised no options has been integrated in the browser so far… or maybe I just did not find them?
userstyle tweak for glitch-soc (at least v4.4.0-alpha.1
) to change the "New post"/"Post" buttons to "Toot" buttons (badly)
(userstyle applies to toot.cat
and tech.lgbt
, other instances might work too if on glitch-soc, i haven't tried, ymmv)

here is a userstyle tweak for glitch-soc for removing the large quote icon from blockquotes, adding a border on the left of them, changing their color, and changing codeblocks and inline code to be white on transparent black.
(toot.cat is currently on glitch-soc 4.4.0-alpha.1
, this should work on other instances, ymmv, etc)

@catppuccin's #userstyles maintainers — surely not the heroes we deserve, but certainly the heroes we got.

ok, this is a bit out there but does anyone know how to edit a user CSS file in the Vanadium browser? The Stylus addon is the easiest way in desktop browsers, but I don't think Vanadium allows any extensions.
idk if anyone was actually using this, but I've updated my CSS to support 4.3

Recently the snippet of code that has been making it much more comfortable to read many sites has been the one below:
```css
element {
max-width: 80ch;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}
```
Works well especially for old documentation (docbook) websites (like this one: https://www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual.html).
Before and after in the screenshots.
Please don't use the Stylish browser extension and userstyles.org. They're both owned by an advertising company, paywall basic features, and also this https://robertheaton.com/2018/07/02/stylish-browser-extension-steals-your-internet-history/
Use the "Stylus" browser extension instead. It's a fork of Stylish before they added the invasive tracking and paywalls. https://userstyles.world/ is also a community-ran alternative to userstyles.org, use that instead for sharing your styles.

random reminder: i have some custom CSS userstyles up on userstyles.world!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i made a MASTODON AWESOME MODE userstyle!!!
it makes the background and text cycle the colors of the rainbow slowly, as well as turning everything into comic sans!!!
userstyles are custom CSS thingies you can use with a browser extension like stylus to override the default appearance of a webpage with something prettier
be sure to point it at the URL of your instance in the settings after installing it!!!
If you further want to customise your Mastodon interface - take a look at my two other #userstyles :
Quickly check if media has a description: https://userstyles.world/style/9528/mastodon-media-description-checker
And change your Toot button into something special on hover: https://userstyles.world/style/9579/special-toot-button
whyyyyy are there no decent recently-updated dark mode userstyles for mastodon lmao
Dred's HN CSS Madhackery: Dark Mode
Based on the parent toot, this is a hand-tweaked dark-mode Hacker News CSS.
Dred's HN CSS Madhackery
There are a number of annoyances / tweaks I fix about the Hacker News website design, whilst retaining its overall flavour. Key are swapping the darker main background / lighter margin default, setting the base font size to the user's default preference, and other miscellaneous tweaks mostly around spacing and colours / highlighting.
I've been using this for a few weeks now and the code has stabilised.
This updates my earlier mods in parent toot.
Again, you'll want to install Stylus, a CSS management browser extension, see https://userstyles.org/ https://add0n.com/stylus.html.
Found some playful little UserStyle for Mastodon, that changes the "Publish"-Button to ... https://userstyles.world/style/7330
Using it with the Stylus Firefox Extension (available for Chrome too)
Trying out some adjustments to the #Mastodon desktop web UI for a more legible experience.
I applied some custom #userStyles to remove avatars and images from the feed view.

Then I applied some styles prepared by @borisanthony (with some slight adjustments):

If you want to give it a try, I recommend the Stylebot extension for Chrome:
