Today was good. It was my first official days as volunteer Trail Crew Lead with #VolunteersForOutdoorColorado. I was supervising 11 other volunteers (of a group of 30ish) in the re-wilding the banks of Senac Creek. All together we planted around 1,800 trees which will hopefully turn the creek banks into shrubby wetland area filled with fruit, shelter, and erosion-control.
Previous conservation efforts have induced the return of beaver, frogs, and pronghorn deer to the creek area

Was ich aber sehr erhellend fand, war diese Doku über die Geschichte der Muskatnuss. Jared Rydelek schafft es ausgehend dieses Gewürzes verschiedenste Fäden zusammenzuziehen, die ich alle schon mal irgendwie interessant fand, aber keinen grösseren Zusammenhang sehen konnte.

Indoor air quality and ventilation folks… I need some help!
I’ve been dealing with terrible VOCs in my apartment that are making me sick. I’ve been trouble shooting for months but can’t figure out where they’re coming from.
My building has four MAUs (make up air units) on the roof that are supposed to pressurize the hallways and supply fresh air from the roof. They needed replacing, and when they were turned off the vocs in my unit dropped considerably.
Best as I can tell the pressurization must be causing excessive air leakage from someone else’s unit into mine.
I have to constantly keep a window open in order to run any exhaust fans, and they’re still high.
Here’s my latest dilemma. I’m in a tiny condo with just a living room and bedroom. Living room has a sliding door to a balcony and bedroom has a window.
I want to put a portable air conditioner in the bedroom as it runs ridiculously hot, but that will mean sealing off the window.
The portable unit comes with a hose to vent the unit out the window … so does that mean it will constantly ventilate as long as the unit is “on”?
If that’s the case it might actually help the VOCs, but I’m unsure if I’m understanding correctly.
I assume if the unit is “off” it would provide less fresh air than an open window, but appreciate any advice!

We have had the VOC and the WIC how bought slaves from African tribes and sailed them across the Atlantic in what is called Trans-Atlantische driehoekshandel in Dutch. Triangular Trade, as you may know it as. Everyone in the Netherlands has to learn this in primary school.

It would be great if someone like @azonenberg or @gsuberland or someone could be nerdsniped into building a reference board or #crowdsupply which has footprint for all the usual sensors like #CO2, #VOC, #temperature, #humidity, etc. With provisions for both battery power and USB-C.
I'd happily buy a bunch of #privacy respecting crowdsupply ones.
In the scope of the Globalise project we've worked on automatic language identification of letters that were shipped back home by the VOC (East India Company) from 1610 to 1796, as preserved by the National Archive. They've been digitised, and automatically transcribed. While the vast majority is in Dutch (unsurprisingly), there are some notable and beautiful exceptions. The middle of the couch is sagging at this point and IKEA no longer sells Ektorp couches in this country. I think they might still do it in Australia- anyway, point is, I don't want to get the replacement models they carry now because their design doesn't allow cushion flipping. Also because I don't want to deal with new-furniture smell from outgassing. Finally, @helmer and @NinaLamal argue that it is important to analyse #Dutch #emdiplomacy not only in its European context, but in its global dimension. The East India Company (#VOC) and its growing importance in #Asia played an important role in the rise of the Dutch republic. Unfortunately, both dimesions – the European and the global one – are far too often dealt seperately with by modern research. A problem that is generally true for research on #earlymodern diplomacy.
This leads to an overarching problem of how to competently connect national, European and global perspectives on diplomacy without blurring the focus. A question to be discussed elsewhere. (5/5)
