A charming little courtyard on two levels; humble, utilitarian, and pretty in a way that’s typical of vernacular architecture. On the left is a three storey building, of the simplest neoclassical style, painted yellow umber, with a green wooden door. There are concrete steps leading up to an upper courtyard, smaller and squarer, right in the middle. From the left side of this rises a wrought iron spiral fire escape staircase, also painted an earthy dusty yellow, with a landing on the storey above, which continues past the frame of the image. On the right is a little outbuilding with a ceramic tile roof, and behind, uphill, the top of a similar house and courtyard or garden. There are several pots of thriving plants all about, enhancing the space with living green, and brightly patterned sheets across a washing line on the lower level, jeans and leggings on another line at the fire escape landing. But for these and the air conditioning unit on the wall, it might be 100 years ago.

Urban street, concrete sidewalk, with close-set single story buildings. Central building is a "shotgun" style wooden late 19th century vernacular building used as a shop. Windows are on either side of the central doorway. The front is painted orange with white trim on the window and door frames, the door is painted red. The door has a window with geometric patterns in the glass, below which a metal mail box hangs crookedly.

To left of the door, the window is partially covered with a banner depicting a wolf and the phases of the moon. Below it is a wooden bench on the sidewalk, with a towel or mat with the text "angel". Between the bench and the door is a small metal wire rack holding compact discs for sale.

5 bay wooden house, raised on piers a meter above ground, with a central front stairway leading via covered front porch to the central front door, flanked by pairs of windows, all with aqua blue shutters against yellow wall. A single dormer window is above the central door.

Single story wooden house, 2 bay "shotgun" style with wider projection towards the back right. There is a driveway on the right side with a wooden gate, painted with a large butterfly. Smaller butterfly designs adorn the front of the house.

More unique Lithuanian vernacular architecture, this time from Neringa and Nida, on the Curonian Spit.

The distinctive timber cottages are painted maroon and blue.

The town itself is located on a spit between the Baltic Sea and a freshwater lagoon, with many trees and impeccable white sand beaches. It's a breathtaking location. (I'll aim to post some more photos soon.)

Another example. The German writer Thomas Mann, who won the 1929 Nobel Prize for Literature, used to go on holidays in this house.

The colour scheme carries through to the inside, such as this staircase.

Wooden 2 bay "shotgun" style house - long and narrow, with each room leading to the other with no side hallway. It is elevated less than a meter above street level on brick piers, with concrete block stairs/stoop leading to door on left bay; the right bay has a window. A somewhat rusty metal awning is over the doorway. The house is only about a meter back from the street, with a brick sidewalk between. The house's yellow paint is faded and in places worn.

To left of house is a chain-link fence gate with a "No Parking" sign. 5 orange plastic cones are at street edge in front of the gate, 2 fairly new looking cones and 3 older weathered and cracked.

At left and right edges of photos are sides of of neighboring somewhat larger houses.
