Happy #Thursday from the #Northland!
The final day of #August will be #warm for this time of the year. An increase in #dewpoints and a southerly #breeze is keeping it feeling like #summer.
Keep an eye to the sky as a broken line of light #showers is passing through along a #front. Some are reaching the ground (#virga) so don't expect much #rain through tonight.
Very interesting and unstable medium level #altocumulus over #Dorset this evening as showers and #thunderstorms build over the English Channel. I also spotted #virga and #mamma embedded within this.
Forgot to mention earlier that there is a bit of #rain in the #Northland this afternoon with a weak disturbance passing through.
Not all of it is reaching the ground (#virga), but locations north of Highway 2 could see the light #showers through this evening.
Better rain chances do come Monday.
The clouds are trying to bring us rain but it's so hot and dry, none of it is making it to the ground. #NewMexico #virga
A beautiful 13th day for us here in #iowa farmland. #cumulonimbus clouds perked up the afternoon. As the dew points are still in the 50s, we only saw #virga here. #today
A "smack" of sky jellyfish in the California sky. We would have also accepted a "swarm" or "bloom" of sky jellyfish.
The radar may look a bit busy this afternoon in the #Northland, but many of these showers are not reaching the ground due to too dry of air near the surface. That is called #virga.
Some isolated ight showers may finally reach the ground tonight, especially east of Highway 53.
Anthony Sharwood at Weatherzone writes about virga (rain that doesn't reach the ground) https://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/strange-scenes-in-the-sky-above-canberra/1109952
