Can #empathy lead to sin? Some #ConservativeChristians argue it can

WASHINGTON (AP) — "Empathy is usually regarded as a virtue, a key to #HumanDecency and #kindness. And yet, with increasing momentum, voices on the #ChristianRight are preaching that it has become a vice.

"For them, empathy is a cudgel for the left: It can manipulate caring people into accepting all manner of sins according to a conservative Christian perspective, including #abortion access, #LGBTQ+ rights, illegal immigration and certain views on #social and #racial justice."

AP News · Conservative Christians argue empathy can be a sinSome voices on the Christian right are arguing the virtue of empathy has become a vice. Those Christians claim empathy can manipulate people into accepting what they see as sins, like abortion access and LGBTQ+ rights. Conservative evangelicals Allie Beth Stuckey and Joe Rigney have written books within the past year criticizing certain forms of empathy. Stuckey's and Rigney's views have gained traction among President Donald Trump’s Christian base as his Republican administration enacts hard-line policies. Progressive Christian leaders emphasize empathy is central to Jesus' teachings, countering claims it's harmful or sinful.

The other costs of the Republican Murder Bill: paperwork and admin costs will soar

"Congress has allocated only $200 million in federal funding for implementing work requirements, the true cost of setting up and administering these systems will likely be many times more, perhaps as much as $4.9 billion, based on one estimate that drew from states that have tried to put in place such requirements. "

When asking "What would Jesus do?"

Telling selfish hypocrites to go to Hell is always an option.

“Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

For I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink. I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.”
Matthew 25: 41-43

Anthony Ashley Cooper led the evangelical movement in the CoE. He studied London hospital records and found a correlation between sanitation and prevalence of vice.

When some Christians imagine this correlation, they’d wall themselves off from “dirty” areas— 45 referred to whole peoples this way. In contrast, a leader to restore biblical orthodoxy to 19thc England wanted to clean up London.

How can you make things cleaner?

Indeed. These politicians who claim to be Christian seem to be unfamiliar with Matthew 25:41-45.

Remember, when asking #WWJD? One option is to tell #hypocrites to go to hell:

“Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

For I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink. I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.”

#WWJD?

According to Matthew 25:41-45, he'd tell that hypocrite Mark Green to go to hell.

In the Bible, #Jesus taught that you should feed the hungry, heal the sick, be kind to the stranger, etc...

Mark Green & the GOP have been doing the exact opposite and continue to do so with Trump's #BigBeautifulBill which takes #food from the hungry, denies #healthcare to the sick & imprisons the stranger.

#WWJD?

According to Matthew 25:41-45, he'd tell the #Republicans who support this bill to go to hell.

I no longer consider myself #Christian, but even I know that #Jesus taught that you should feed the hungry, heal the sick, be kind to the stranger, etc...

Which is the opposite of what the GOP is doing with Trump's #BigBeautifulBill which takes #food from the hungry, denies #healthcare to the sick & imprisons the stranger.
