Why? (No, the Liam Neeson one isn't called Naked Gun Episode One: The Phantom Menace, but if I had my way it would be.)</p><p>Leslie Nielson, which almost rhymes with Neeson, was nothing short of brilliant in his deadpan portrayal of Detective Frank Drebin who, for the record, was not at all like Commander John J. Adams who he portrayed in the 1956 sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet. </p><p>Don't get confused, because the <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/comedon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>comedon</span></a> movie is The Naked Gun, which would be an entirely inappropriate watch party tag for Forbidden Planet. They are not remotely connected movies. Even the soundtracks are different. No, OJ Simpson wasn't in Forbidden Planet. You're thinking of Capricorn One. But he was in two of the three Naked Gun movies. It was a different time. Queued up this week is The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the 1994 Australian road movie about two drag queens and a transgender woman driving a bus across the Outback.</p><p>Being the '90s, none of these characters are played by actual drag performers or trans actors. But on the other hand, Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terrence Stamp are fine actors so it will be interesting to see how well they do. (I've never seen it. Or maybe I saw part of it once. Or maybe I dreamed about someone else watching it. It's all a bit fuzzy.) There's also a Filipina character whose portrayal has been criticized as insensitive. </p><p>All that aside, it's got ABBA on the soundtrack!</p><p>Party time is 7:00 PM PT today and there are a variety of ways to watch it (free and otherwise) listed on this link.
