Taylor Arndt<p>Digital inclusion isn't just about compliance (like WCAG standards); it's about reaching your entire audience and providing equal access to information.<br><a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/WebAccessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebAccessibility</span></a> <a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/DigitalInclusion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalInclusion</span></a> <a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/A11y" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>A11y</span></a> <a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/WCAG" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WCAG</span></a> <a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/InclusiveDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>InclusiveDesign</span></a> (2/2)</p>
Taylor Arndt<p>Real accessibility means proper coding, inclusive design, and AI-driven solutions that enhance usability for everyone. If your overlay isn’t delivering real results, it’s time for a better approach.</p><p>Let’s make your website truly accessible. Taylor Arndt<p>If you’re serious about digital accessibility, ditch the overlays and invest in real, sustainable solutions—like proper coding practices, WCAG compliance, and user testing with disabled individuals.</p><p>Read more about the UserWay lawsuit here: <a href="https://www.lflegal.com/2025/02/userway-overlay-lawsuit/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">lflegal.com/2025/02/userway-ov</span><span class="invisible">erlay-lawsuit/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/Accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Accessibility</span></a> <a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/UserWay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UserWay</span></a> <a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/Lawsuit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Lawsuit</span></a> <a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/A11y" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>A11y</span></a> <a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/DigitalInclusion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalInclusion</span></a> <a href="https://techopolis.social/tags/WebAccessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebAccessibility</span></a> (3/3)</p>
Kent Pitman<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/@Aphelion" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Aphelion</span></a></span> </p><p>I applaud the concern about alt text. One of my best friends is blind, and I like to see her properly supported in her online experience. </p><p>But sometimes it works to ask people to edit posts to add alt text on images. Not everyone knows about alt text at all, and some people who try to include it forget sometimes, or don't realize they can edit it in after the fact. I try to always assume that this error, when it happens, is not an intentional slight, and so is a learning opportunity. And especially where good content would otherwise be lost, it seems worth the effort.</p><p>Mastodon has user preferences to make the absence of alt text show up visibly or to just filter out things that lack alt text ... BUT (strangely) it has no preference I can find that says "warn me if I'm posting something that would need such a flag". There should be such a preference and it should default to ON.</p><p>I consider it a major faux pas in design to beat someone up for something technologically when you could have just dissuaded or prevented the bad thing with an equal application of technology.</p><p><a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Preferences" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Preferences</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/UserPreferences" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UserPreferences</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/UI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UI</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/WebAccessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebAccessibility</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/AltText" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AltText</span></a></p>

Lanie Carmelo<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://babka.social/@acarson" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>acarson</span></a></span> Thanks for the suggestion! I looked into FacetWP, but sadly it’s not within my budget. I’m exploring portfolio plugins, but many seem overly visual or image-focused. My projects are more text-heavy, with elements like a title, description, screenshot, GitHub repo link, live demo link, and an embedded iFrame of the demo. Any recommendations for a plugin that could handle this setup? Accessibility is also a top priority! </p><p><a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/WordPress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WordPress</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/WebAccessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebAccessibility</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/PortfolioDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PortfolioDesign</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/WebDev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebDev</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/Coding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Coding</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/Plugins" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Plugins</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/GeneratePress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GeneratePress</span></a></p>
Lanie Carmelo<p><a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/WebDev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebDev</span></a> friends, I could use your advice! 💡💻 <br>I’m working on improving my <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/WordPress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WordPress</span></a> portfolio page at <a href="https://laniecarmelo.tech" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">laniecarmelo.tech</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>. My current portfolio is here: <a href="https://laniecarmelo.tech/dev-in-progress" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">laniecarmelo.tech/dev-in-progr</span><span class="invisible">ess</span></a>. I thought I was happy with the setup, but I realized it’s not filterable, which I definitely need as I add more projects! 😅 <br>Each project includes a description, GitHub link, live demo, screenshot, and embedded demo. As a <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/BlindDeveloper" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BlindDeveloper</span></a>, I can't visually assess layout changes, so I’d love any feedback on both functionality and design. <br>Now I’m looking for solutions: <br>1️⃣ Can anyone recommend <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/AccessibleWordPress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AccessibleWordPress</span></a> plugins for filterable portfolios? <br>2️⃣ Any way to add filtering to my existing setup without server access? <br>3️⃣ Tips for keeping the portfolio page <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a>-friendly and well-organized? <br>Thanks in advance for your help! 🙏 <br><a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/WebAccessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebAccessibility</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/PortfolioDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PortfolioDesign</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/WordPressHelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WordPressHelp</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/BlindCoders" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BlindCoders</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/Developers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Developers</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tech</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/technology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>technology</span></a> <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/blind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>blind</span></a></p>
Lanie Carmelo<p>Calling all <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/WordPress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WordPress</span></a> users, especially those passionate about <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/Accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Accessibility</span></a>! I need advice: My current contact form on this page of my <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/Website" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Website</span></a> (<a href="https://laniecarmelo.tech/connect-with-me" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">laniecarmelo.tech/connect-with</span><span class="invisible">-me</span></a>) is very basic. I'm using WPForms Lite, but improving it would require manually adding fields since advanced features are locked behind their premium plan. </p><p>I’ve tried the Fluent Forms plugin, but I didn’t find it accessible. Can anyone recommend a free, <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/Accessible" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Accessible</span></a> contact form plugin that allows for creating more robust forms?
