Von Tiesenhausen has since deployed it to fight incursions into his property as well as expropriation for resource development. To date, all matters with the oil and gas companies have been settled out of court, and the artist has never had to try out his claim before the law. "They don't want to test it, because what if I win?" he says.

In a further effort to keep pipeline developers at bay, von Tiesenhausen began charging $500 an hour for consultations.

Did you also know that while the Orphan Well Association struggles to keep up on such a small budget for cleanup, guess who is paying landowners costs for weed control? And guess who is paying them compensation for unpaid surface lease rentals the companies have reneged on? Taxpayers.

And then there are those interest-free loans to the OWA, money given to them by both the provincial and federal governments.

Or, #DanielleSmith, rather than shipping off raw materials - the least valuable part of the production chain - we could refine the oil in Canada (along with the jobs) and then produce high-value materials rather than just burning the stuff.

But we never see that kind of constructive governance from the #UCP and #Conservatives, all they know is to cutting and enriching their friends & donors.

“Smith tried to persuade about 500 people at a town hall in Fort Macleod that her government was acting responsibly in advancing coal mining. … 500 severely normal Albertans, many as pissed as summer hornets, filled the hall to the brim. Ranchers. Irrigators. Landowners. Hikers. Moms. Water drinkers. Conservationists. Musicians like Corb Lund and Sid Marty. Small-c conservatives. Former mayors. Water scientists.” #Coal #ABPoli #WaterConservation
