💥 An absolute must-read for muricans.

Just read it. Don't allow my musings below deter you.

Although with apparently HALF of the US population having the reading (and thus comprehension?) level of a fifth-grader or lower — including their Ruler — any reasoned writings will struggle against "freedom-to-lie" soundbites served by MAGA radicalization propaganda bubbles owned by naturalized white supremacist immigrants-turned-citizens like Murdoch and Musk...

And another personal anecdote: For reasons unknown I caught a documentary about the *swindles* of one inconsequential NY property mogul years before that sociopathic crook set his sights to gold-plating the Oval Office... The gist of that documentary was that no matter how slimy and overtly criminal *Trump's* actions were he never had to face any tangible consequences for his criminal actions.

It was truly mind-boggling, but as someone of European sensibility I presumed his pathological deceitfulness would certainly catch up with him when he decided to play in politics and run for the highest office, no less. Right?

It was a brutal awakening to realize that his case merely parallelled that of *American Exceptionalism*.

Even under Democratic administrations the USA has held itself above global rules set by such pesky institutions as the United Nations or the International Court of Justice.

No accountability or consequences for breaking globally agreed rules, ever. "Whacha gonna do about it?"

Trump's rise was enabled by this "One rule for the priviledged and consequences are only for the suckers" exceptionalist mentality.

I don't know how many billions of non-murican earthlings agree with me here, but while I grew up appreciating America's *IDEALS* and the efforts of popular movements towards reaching them, I will have very little respect for that collective until it drops its exceptionalism — internally and externally — and finally becomes of regular country again.

Unfortunately the world, indeed democracy itself, is running out of time with the network of hostile autocrats growing more powerful and emboldened by the day. 🤐

"Might is right" isn't a concept compatible with democracy, justice and human rights. It is the key concept of despots.

Also, Europe by and large is *not* a shithole because it has for most of the last century run by democratic *liberals* (incl. consensus-minded moderate right). Experience and map also tells that the more liberal the government, the happier the population.

The DEA Once Touted Body Cameras for Their “Enhanced Transparency.” Now the Agency Is Abandoning Them.

An internal email obtained by ProPublica said the agency made the change to be “consistent” with a Trump executive order. But at least two other federal law enforcement agencies are still requiring body cameras.

Dereliction, Due Process, and Decorum: The Crises of Title IX
Catharine R. Stimpson

"This history shows that people opposed to discrimination, like feminists, cannot rely on the law alone. Too often the law is unstable. We need a new code of ethics, rooted in feminist principles, the “New Decorum.”"
