How does AI handle insufficient information? 🤔 We tested an AI with questions about the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, and the bastions of Valletta. The AI gave inconsistent answers when training data is limited or unclear. We also touch on AI poisoning, where AI models can be misled by fake data

2/ It’s common for people to mistakenly assume e-bikes and e-motorcycles are much the same.

We appreciate those who recognize the important distinctions between these electric vehicles. See our post above for the Monterey Police Department press release correctly identifying the vehicle involved as an e-motorcycle. (Page 3 of that press release also includes a photo of that impounded vehicle.)

We also appreciate media professionals who are committed to accurate reporting—including that when these humans do make an error (thankfully MCN/MCW isn’t written by AI bots!), the best media pros promptly acknowledge and correct it. That’s what #MontereyCountyNow / #MontereyCountyWeekly staff writer David Schmalz did today with his Feb 14 story originally titled "Wild e-bike [sic] chase in downtown Monterey ends in major firearms arrest.” montereycountynow.com/blogs/ne

Monterey County NOWWild e-motorcyle chase in downtown Monterey ends in major firearms arrest.A wild police chase in downtown Monterey involving an e-bike has led to the arrest of Jeffrey Vandervort Sr. on multiple firearms charges. The event unraveled as officers pursued a suspect who evaded capture, uncovering numerous illegally possessed firearms in a subsequent search.

Note the #KION headline mistakenly refers to the device as an “ebike" ("Police seize juvenile’s Talaria electric bike after brief chase”), reinforcing mistaken perceptions about ebikes. If people read past the headline, they’ll see in the short story itself a reference to "illegal electric motorcycles.”

"According to police, electric motorcycles like Sur Ron's and Talaria's are not street legal or safe and can have motors that exceed 6,000 watts, which is more than the legal 750 watts.

"'This Talaria was modified to reach speeds more double the stock limit,' said police.” kion546.com/news/santa-cruz-co

ICYMI, see related stmt from #California #Bicycle Coalition and other #ActiveTransport advocates, "California Bicycle Advocates Call on Elected Leaders to Protect E-Bike Riders by Curbing Illegal Electric Motorcycles": bikemonterey.org/california-bi.

KION546 · Police seize juvenile's Talaria electric bike after brief chaseThe Capitola Police said that after the rider of a Talaria did not yield to an enforcement stop on Clares Street New Year's Eve, a small pursuit started but was then stopped due to traffic conditions in the area.

Agenda-setting by mass media, social/ media literacy and the climate

"97% of adult Australians have limited skills to verify information online – new report. We also found many people accept content at face value, mostly based on their “gut feeling” or emotional response, rather than questioning the content".

"Accessing reliable and trustworthy information enables citizens to make informed decisions about everything – from voting, to making purchases, to staying safe online, to accessing health advice and services...Unlike many advanced democracies such as the Netherlands or Finland, Australia doesn’t have a national media literacy policy or strategy to ensure citizens are provided with support to help them verify information online."

The significance of media consumption on climate opinion

"Our study has ... identified that patterns of consumption of ABC and Sky News predict climate opinion, with more consumption of ABC aligning with agreement with pro-climate action opinions and more consumption of Sky News aligning with disagreement with pro-climate action opinions. We further identified a consistent relationship between climate opinion and frequency of consuming ABC and Sky News, with higher consumption of ABC News aligning with stronger pro-climate opinion and higher consumption of Sky News aligning with weaker pro-climate opinion."
