Ohrentaucher im Prachtkleid
Der Ohrentaucher (Podiceps auritus) gehört zu den Lappentaucher. Er wird bis zu 38 cm lang und bekommt eine Spannweite von bis zu 55 cm. Zu seiner Ernährung zählen Krebse, Insekten und kleinen Fische. Der Ohrentaucher ist leicht mit dem Schwarzhalstaucher zu verwechseln.

Kingfisher
Finally I was able to photograph a kingfisher. I really like the colours of this "diamond".
The kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) grows up to 19.5 cm and has a wingspan of up to 25 cm. It feeds mainly on fish, but also on insects and tadpoles.


Kingfisher
Endlich konnte ich mal einen Eisvogel fotografieren. Ich mag die Farben von diesem „Diamanten“ sehr und den englischen Namen „Königfischer“.

Der Eisvogel (Alcedo atthis) wird bis zu 19,5 cm groß und bekommt eine Spannweite von bis zu 25 cm. Er ernährt sich vor allem von Fischen, aber auch von Insekten und Kaulquappen. 1973 und 2009 war der Eisvogel in Deutschland Vogel des Jahres.

Kestrel
What luck: behind our vacation house there was a kestrel's nest for a few days.

The kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) grows up to 37 cm tall and has a wingspan of up to 80 cm. It feeds mainly on small rodents. Like all falcons, the kestrel does not build its own nest.

Turmfalke
Was ein Glück: hinter unserer Ferienhütte war für ein paar Tage ein Falkennest.

Der Turmfalke (Falco tinnunculus) wird bis zu 37 cm groß und bekommt eine Spannweite von bis zu 80 cm. Er ernährt sich vorallem von kleinen Nagetieren. Wie alle Falken baut der Turmfalke keinen eigenes Nest. 2007 war der Turmfalke in Deutschland Vogel des Jahres.

This jay has just shaken off the constant rain.
The Jay (Garrulus glandarius ) grows up to 35 cm tall and has a wingspan of up to 58 cm. It is a member of the Corvidae family and feeds on acorns, caterpillars, and seeds. Jays are good vocal mimics and warn forest dwellers of danger.


Eichelhäher
Dieser Eichelhäher hat sich gerade den Dauerregen abgeschüttelt.
Der Eichelhäher (Garrulus glandarius ) wird bis zu 35 cm groß und bekommt eine Spannweite von bis zu 58 cm. Er gehört zur Familie der Rabenvögel und ernährt sich u.a. von Eicheln, Raupen und Sämereien. Eichhäher sind gute Stimmenimitatoren und warnen die Waldbewohner vor Gefahren.
