IfremerSurveillance de l’Océan : un appel international à renforcer d’urgence le programme ArgoA l’occasion de la 3ème Conférence des Nations Unies sur l’Océan (UNOC3), la communauté internationale met en lumière le rôle central du programme international de surveillance de l’Océan Argo dans un article publié dans la revue Frontiers in Marine Science. Essentiel pour comprendre le fonctionnement de l’Océan et suivre son évolution, Argo entre dans sa nouvelle phase “OneArgo” pour répondre à de nouveaux enjeux scientifiques sur le rôle de l’océan profond sur le climat, la désoxygénation et l’acidification des océans, ou encore le cycle du carbone. Un soutien financier durable et renforcé est urgent pour permettre à OneArgo de se déployer pleinement et donner à nos sociétés les moyens de préserver les nombreux services que l’Océan nous rend et de faire face aux défis climatiques et environnementaux majeurs actuels.

Our friend Dan head of [USGS] Global Systems Lab is gone.

#GSL's web page is gone, or unresponsive at this time. Looks as though the whole thing has been vanished.

Changes inflicted for only ~$75M paid as a bribe to the current administration by the #FossilFuel industry.

It would be a good idea to strongly express ourselves at this time.

@arichtman basic flow is a deploy event occurs by a new release of our automation > assert cluster has no alerts; halt if true > apply changes > execute test suites > wait for changes to stabilize > assert cluster health once again.

If we would have started this project in 2023 we would have used cluster api and probably #crossplane or #argo in favor of terraform and terragrunt for the mgmt of cloud resources. We’re using #flux for the bulk of the “infra” workloads and monitoring

Tři američtí vojáci od letectva, kteří byli ve válce ve Vietnamu sestřeleni a následně americkou armádou považováni za nezvěstné se rozhodli nevrátit se domů a zůstat nezvěstní. Zůstat inkognito. Nakonec se usídlili v Laosu na kraji jedné horské vesničky a tam se věnovali vaření drog, duchovnímu životu a tak podobně.
Jednoho dne je ale jeden z nich chycen při pašování drog a vládu začne zajímat, kde jsou zbylí dva.
Trocha Laosu a Vietnamu, trocha Thajska a Ameriky, trocha japonské mytologie a spousta filozofování a humoru a... majonézy.

Its a little bit subtle - but the crew have just deployed an #Argo float. A basic ocean robot that has been a game changer in understanding the ocean. There are around 4000 in the ocean at any one time and they last for years - profiling up and down over the upper 2 km of the ocean sending back "ocean weather" data by satellite. Román amerického autora, původem z Dominikánské republiky, vypráví příběh dominikánského mladíka a jeho rodiny, která je po několik generací sužována kletbou - fukú.
Hlavní hrdina, Oskar, je obézní nerd (extra nerd), který se chce stát spisovatelem a není absolutně schopen "zabodovat" u opačného pohlaví, což dává za vinu kletbě, která trápí jeho rodinu.
V knize sledujeme i příběh jeho sestry, matky a babičky a postupně odhalujeme historii jeho rodiny a počátek kletby.
Autor, Junit Díaz, za tento tragikomický román, prošpikovaný popkulturními odkazy, dostal v roce 2008 Pulitzera.

Deep #ocean #marine #heatwaves may be under-reported, study says
The majority of previous studies on marine heatwaves have focused on surface signals based on widely available satellite observations of sea-surface temperature. Researchers used observational data from more than two million ocean temperature profiles from global oceans. The study found that 80% of marine heatwaves below 100 metres are independent of surface events.
