Les capsules du prof Lutz<p>Important milestone for my timecode gizmo: this is the first successful syncing using a cell phone and the Teensy board implementing an USB audio device, plugged as an external mic into the USB-C port. This is important as I'm pivoting my project toward youtubers rather than indy cinematographers who are already using overpriced and counter intuitive SMPTE LTC generators in their workflow 😏 </p><p><a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/atomicSynchronator" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>atomicSynchronator</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/audio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audio</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/videoEditing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>videoEditing</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/filmMaking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>filmMaking</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/fieldRecording" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fieldRecording</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/teensy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>teensy</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/timecode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>timecode</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/ltc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ltc</span></a></p>

Les capsules du prof Lutz<p>We see the error is less than half a frame, which is nominal (but could be problematic if other lag is added in the workflow, wireless mic) If you know some site or forum where this is discussed, let me know! All I found about this crucial subject (😏 ) is <a href="https://www.dvinfo.net/forum/final-cut-suite/515203-1-2-frame-difference-audio.html#post1785665" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">dvinfo.net/forum/final-cut-sui</span><span class="invisible">te/515203-1-2-frame-difference-audio.html#post1785665</span></a></p><p>I did the same measurements for a D300S and I even saw a *rolling* error from -30 to +10 ms ! I guess they are writing sound data to a ring buffer and read it at a different frequency. <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/atomicsynchronator" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>atomicsynchronator</span></a></p>
Les capsules du prof Lutz<p>Each time the rotating arm passes over the electrical contact, my python script processes the few frames around this moment and interpolates the exact time (to the nearest millisecond) the video stream "touches" the wire. It then compares this time value with the one detected on the audio stream and compute the difference between them: this is the synchronization error. Plotted here for some 28 passes. <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/atomicsynchronator" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>atomicsynchronator</span></a></p>
Les capsules du prof Lutz<p>Well, my results are reproducible, time to publish them!🥳 Here's the raw material. <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/atomicsynchronator" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>atomicsynchronator</span></a></p>
