its the best software, i know. screw dropbox, google, etc. this thing just passively synchronices all files you want with your pc.

It's running on a Hetzner VPS which creates nightly snapshots of the system disk that reach back seven days. Today, March 31, is World Backup Day once again. As is now a modern tradition, we need a special day to draw attention to an important topic: World Backup Day is once again a reminder of the importance of data backups and security - and, especially in these times, in terms of encryption.

Egal ob bei Urlaubsfotos oder bei der Buchführung: Bei manchen Daten schmerzt es sehr, sollten sie dauerhaft verloren gehen. Ein regelmäßiges #Backup ist daher ein wichtiger Baustein für mehr #Datensicherheit. Der Welt-Backup-Tag am 31. März soll daran erinnern, digitale Inhalte rechtzeitig zu sichern. So können sie im Fall eines Verlustes wiederhergestellt werden.

On #WorldBackupDay, a reminder of the 3-2-1 Rule:

• 3 copies of each file exist, as a minimum
• 2 copies are on physically different storage media
• 1 copy is on a storage medium that is physically located “elsewhere”

As an absolute minimum, suggest the following to people without appropriate protection:

• Get 2 external disks
• Make regular backups on one of them, while the other remains stored “elsewhere”, with someone trustworthy
• Have the two disks swap places regularly

Strictly speaking, the “1” of the 3-2-1 rule is only maintained if you take the disk that has just been used for the backup to “elsewhere”, and return with the other one (not the other way round).

Am #WorldBackupDay eine Erinnerung an die 3-2-1 Regel:

• 3 Exemplare jeder Datei gibt es mindestens
• 2 Exemplare davon liegen auf physisch verschiedenen Speichermedien
• 1 Exemplar auf einem Speichermedium, das räumlich "woanders" untergebracht ist

Als absolutes Minimum legt Menschen ohne entsprechenden Schutz zwecks Abhilfe nahe:

• Besorg Dir 2 externe Disks
• Auf eine davon mache regelmäßige Backups, während die andere bei jemand Vertrauenswürdigem "woanders" gelagert bleibt
• Lass die beiden Disks regelmäßig die Plätze tauschen

Genau genommen wird das "1" der 3-2-1-Regel nur gewahrt, wenn man die bis gerade fürs Backup genutzte Disk "woanders" hinbringt und mit der anderen zurück kommt, nicht umgekehrt.

World's backup day today. Coincidentally I did check whether I can mount my backups and see the files in them today morning. Today is also my manual backup day.

Go make sure your backups are working, test them, because untested backups are no backups at all. Make sure you have multiple copies, one in off-site location, because physical incidents can happen.

And as a reminder, the most precious for you to backup will always be your very first ever #Minecraft world, even if you don't realize that at the time.

Heute ist der „World Backup Day“, der daran erinnern soll, wie wichtig Backups der eigenen Daten sind. Dabei gilt: Backups sollten mindestens täglich erfolgen und der 3-2-1 als Grundregel folgen. Drei Backups auf zwei unterschiedlichen Datenträgern, davon mindestens eine Kopie außerhalb des Hauses / Büros. Das wichtigste ist aber, überhaupt ein regelmäßiges Backup zu machen. Denn: jedes Backup ist besser als kein Backup!

Don't forget to verify your backups from time to time. A backup you haven't checked that you can successfully restore from is worse than useless: it gives you a false sense of security.
