RaymondPierreL3<p>This is just such a great and accessible explanation of how our national electricity market(<a href="https://aus.social/tags/NEM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NEM</span></a>) runs that I have to share it. It’s essentially an ‘everything you wanted to know about renewable’s role in how we use electricity’ simple explainer. But did your energy REALLY come from you? Or did it go on a loop via the substation? Or did a coal plant power your household appliance? 😆

One thing is for sure: Coal fire power production is reducing over time, as more wind, solar & storage comes online. Only #wind & #solar are on a massive installation spike.

Gas power is the most interesting fossil fuel because it can be switched on and off quickly. Coal needs to stay warmed up just in case. That’s where “#baseload power” comes from.

A piece on emerging #technology for deep drilling. #Geothermal steam extraction for #baseload electricity generation to me seems achievable much quicker than fusion. Also if available it could directly be used to convert our existing coal plants into carbon neutral production facilities. However, there is not much talk about the topic, strange… cleantechforeurope.com/news/pl
