The #US National Institutes of Health announced on Feb 7 it was immediately cutting some $4B a year in funding to #biomedical researchers nationwide. The move would reduce the share of #NIH #grants paid to “indirect” costs—lab upkeep, administration & operation—to 15%, cutting their historical rate almost in half, overnight.

Rice University’s Naomi Halas is the recipient of the 2025 Benjamin Franklin Medal in #Chemistry, awarded “for the creation and development of #nanoshells — metal-coated nanoscale particles that can capture light energy — for use in many #biomedical and #chemical applications.”
