When I think of the things I enjoy the most about New Hampshire, I think about the smell of the spring breeze delicately perfumed with the delightful scent of our state flower, the purple lilac. And, she ain't so bad to look at, either!

The Cecille Brunner is just starting to go crazy. We have a 150ft long arbor of this prodigious rose. This time of year the scent in the front yard is unbelievable.

The 2025 garden season in Northwest Philly has officially opened! Here's a walk-through of this year's veggie patch. Please ignore the problematic name of the pepper strain, I didn't name it, "Chef Jeff" did.

A raised bed with dirt and two plants:

* Sweet melon (cucumis Melo)
* Butternut Squash (Cucurbita moschata)

Several plants in a raised outdoor planter:

* Common spearmint
* Dino kale (Brassica oleracea var. palmifolia)
* "Kung Pow" Sriracha peppers (something stupid like 100k Scovilles per pepper)
* Some jalapeno variety called "Big Guy"
* Old kale from last season that is almost entirely flowers. These are good to keep because they are one of the first flowers to open in late February, which is good for bees and pollenators.

Three plants in an outdoor raised planter:

* Popcorn (zea Mays)
* Sweet basil (Ocimum basilcum)
* Pineapple Sage (salvia Eleganis)

Good morning from the Azaleas!

Today is a fresh new start in my own mental and physical health journey and my wish is that all enjoy the opportunity to make the best of what today has to offer each of us!

Even if you're at rock bottom, keep fighting and pushing forward. It can be a long journey, for me it's been since October 2023 and eventually led to 6 out of 7 months being on medical leave to recover. Many days I did not want to continue on. Those were the days where I reminded myself that EVENTUALLY things would get better again. It doesn't happen over night, it happens with diligent and continuous effort, endless self-advocacy, asking for what you need (sometimes demanding it), patience, dedication, and a whole lot of hope.

It's always worth it, because YOU'RE always worth it! Know that you're not alone and are loved!

Be kind to yourself and find a reason to smile today

Fringecup flowers are opening in our garden. They're shaped like bells with very feathery hectic petals curling up, away from the flower cup. They grow on long stalks, which stand tall above a mound of bright green, rounded and lobed leaves. They're easy to spot when growing wild in the woods and stream shores.

A view down a Seattle neighborhood sidewalk shows the care some gardeners put into their floral displays. On the house side, there are walls and other borders full of tulips, scilla, and other colorful flowers. The yards have birch trees, maples, apples, and many shrubs. On the street side, red Japanese maples of various sizes, green grass strips, and small shrubs enclosed the view.

A sidewalk in my neighborhood is covered with pink crabapple petals after a wind storm. Pink flowering crabapple trees bend over the sidewalk from curbside strips. You can see blue scilla growing on both sides as well as bright tulips and other spring flowers.

Evergreen huckleberries (Vaccinium ovatum) are blooming. This hardy native is evergreen, and used by wise people for hedges. Its blue huckleberries are very small but usually abundant, and tasty!
