Enjoying an excellent pizza at Ascent Bistro in Bucharest. I stumbled across this place on Monday when sheltering from the rain, made a note to come back. I love happy accidents like that.

Caught a glimpse of the monstrous Palace of the Parliament, late dictator Ceaușescu's pet vanity project, as I left a tram yesterday. My lovely Art Nouveau hotel is very close to the destruction zone around that building, it was very lucky to escape.
Christ, I haven't done this many steps for a while. No wonder my feet ache! Enjoyed this Bucharest food & neighbourhood tour today, even with all the walking.

I keep seeing this Bucharest sign out of the corner of my eye and thinking of Macbeth.
"Hail Maxbet! Who shalt be king hereafter."
FINALLY the rain eased off and I ventured forth to find my hotel, the Boheme.
What a charmer! Built in 1914, somehow survived all the architecture-destroying events since then (including Ceaușescu) and is a lovely hotel today. With my perfect little single room within.
"AVERSE TORIENTIALE!" No shit, Sherlock
Have been receiving these mobile phone alerts (along with everyone else) all day today. "Avoid any travels." RIGHT NO PROBLEM
F*ck! The rain eased off enough for me to get on the bus to my hotel, then a BIBLICAL DELUGE began.
Had no choice but to get off at my stop into torrents of rain and 10cm of more of water sloshing around the roadway.
Lurked under bus stop, then finally made it to the nearest shops. My hotel is nearby but in the open, and it's still *bucketing* down out there.
Now sheltering in a cafe, might be sleeping here if this vertical flood doesn't abate.
Wow I've arrived at Bucharest's Gara de Nord and it's suddenly started bucketing down - quickly revealing where all the leaks in the station roof are. Feels like a monsoon. #bucharest #station
Went to the #pride march in #Bucharest, #Romania yesterday. Good excuse to get some exercise! First time going to a pride march, wasn't sure what to expect beforehand. Met a bunch of people and had some fun conversations on the way. Huge turnout.
