Vor gut einem Jahr habe ich eine meiner Arlos gegen die Tapo C425 getauscht. Am besten lest ihr einfach das, was ich im Februar 2024 geschrieben habe. Die Kamera hat sich bewährt! Vier Dinge haben mich im Langzeittest überzeugt:

- Lokale Erkennung von Personen, Haustieren und Fahrzeugen.

- Lokale Speicherung auf einer SD-Karte.

- Großer Akku, deshalb

Between looking through old photos the other day and the most recent “She’s a Beast” post on dumbing down your phone, I woke up with the urge to pick up a cheap DSLR and lens.

I used to work with a 5D Mark IV and L lenses. It was fabulous. Everything was *pristine.* Then a health crisis quashed my creative side. My “eye” was gone, didn’t see shots.

My phone is already pretty dumbed down, but the piece suggests replacing its multi-functionality with purpose built tools, like a watch. In my case, why not a camera?

And why not a cheap camera? One with flaws and limits, that’ll push me to work around them. I wonder if I had issues picking up the Canon because it delivered perfection, exactly what I wanted, and I no longer had the ability to see what I wanted? And an imperfect camera will give me room to fuck around, to force constraints. Cheap means I can toss it around, let it ride in the car.

Off to eBay! $30 price limit on a digital Rebel.

Ah, these were simpler, yet much more complex times...

Side grip and focus ring with markings are now assembled, so I'd consider this one finished! I ordered some film and developer, so hopefully I'll have some test shots at the end of the week!

Motion detection + object tracking works multiple levels above where it was with #zoneminder. It IDs every car going down the street and often in the parking lot a block away, plus the half-a-car poking over the hill from my neighbor.

It has reinvigorated me to set up some additional camerae in key spots of the yard plus maybe a birdfeeder one?
