From the late 1990s for this week's #ThrowbackThursday this is the chairlift ride near The Needles and Alum Bay on the Isle of Wight. I and my then-girlfriend (now wife) had taken the hovercraft across to the island to meet up with her parents who were spending a week there on holiday. A few of the typical tourist activities then took place including this somewhat rickety ride over the cliff.

It's a beautiful, sunny day and we're riding a chairlift high above the top of a grassy cliff looking out to calm blue sea almost unbroken save for a strip of land on the horizon to the right. A pylon ahead stands on the cliff edge and the chairlifts ahead of us head towards it, passing it on the right and descending out of view below while others come the other way passing on the left. It feels warm and a little thrilling to be this high up and approaching an edge with just the water and clear blue sky ahead.
