Next Saturday at Firestorm Books we'll be discussing the Eurochristian origins of mass criminalization and racial capitalism. Join us in-person at 3pm with Andrew Krinks, author of the recently published book "White Property, Black Trespass." In dialog with local organizers Hill Brown and Rev. Allyn Maxfield-Steele, Andrew will share their work on the historical continuity and religiosity of whiteness and property, concluding with a vision for a faith-based abolition of prisons and policing.

You can find more information on the event and copies of "White Property, Black Trespass: Racial Capitalism and the Religious Function of Mass Criminalization" on our website at firestorm.coop/events/3344-the.

As a former USMC infantryman (1977-1991) who left the Marines as a #consciencious_objector, I have first-hand witness to the futility of violence. Unless you are willing to wipe out your "enemy" completely, the risk of reprisal is always there.
I will be the first to admit that religion, when subservient to the state, is a major tool in war and oppression. For the Christian church it does not matter if you are Roman Catholic, Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, Evangelical or Anabaptist, they all are complicit.

But I still hold to the Way of Jesus, as did the Berrigans.

Whether or not you made it to last week's reading group kick off, we hope you'll join us tomorrow to discuss the first section of Rebecca Solnit's "A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster." We'll be talking about the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 (pages 13-72) in the context of our own experiences with Hurricane Helene. This is also a cool section because it includes the origin story of the Catholic Worker Movement, a radical faith movement that inspired BeLoved Asheville!

Copies of "A Paradise Built in Hell" are available at Firestorm with a discount, or at no cost for participants in financial distress. We'll also be continuing to provide childcare for kids five and up, so please let us know the names and ages of the young folks you're bringing!

Full event details and schedule can be found at firestorm.coop/events/3290-beh

It is always ethical to criticize an institution. Martin Luther did nothing wrong. I’m referring to his criticism of the Catholic Church not an overall judgment of character. All who are saved have salvation, it doesn’t matter your denomination. Jesus was a radical who challenged the status quo. When saying act, Christlike, flipping tables and chasing people with a whip for perverting the house of God with bartering/selling counts. CHRIST WAS A SERVANT, not a ruler #Christiananarchism #anarchism

In cases of religious oppression, the common dominator is the aspect of the state with religious qualities. Typically religious terrorists are terrorists first and don’t know their scripture very well and often go against what is required of them. Religion has also been used as a tool of the state from the dawn of their existence. A true church doesn’t even need a building, but needs a community of understanding and mutual aid and cooperation. #christiananarchism #anarchochristian
