Laptop died. Recommendations?

Currently on a #Chromebook but it has only 4 GB RAM, which is cramped. The keyboard is also lacking Home/End keys and F keys.

I've started gradually replacing #Anydesk and #Teamviewer on all desktops I provide support for with #RustDesk.

The tech nerd in me could not stand to toss or recycle a perfectly good Chromebook just because Samsung and Google no longer supported it. Took me an embarrassing long time but now have it running on Linux. LUbuntu. Working great. Years of secure computing to go #chromebook #ubuntu

So, anyone with experience with Chromebooks?.

I'm trying to install fydeOS on an Asus C523NA-A20057 Chromebook.

I've disconnected the battery so I can root it. However, I can't boot into recovery mode.

I plug it into power, hold esc+refresh then tap power and it just boots to log in. I've also tried esc+maximise.

So my #kindle is acting up (or it may be amazon); a bunch of files are just not copying over, and a book I bought (yes, amazon evil, I'm aware and trying to move away from it, thanks) is flatly not uploading to the kindle.

Customer service is useless, and I'm more than a little angry right now: why the fuck isn't there a #chromebook friendly #Calibre solution? why are we expected to a) have a linux-capable machine, and b) learn fucking linux just to move our fucking files off amazon?

#Accessibility hive mind, I have some questions about #ChromeVox as well as #Chromebook accessibility & #usability in general. I'm working with a #PixelBook that has never been used. ChromeVox is telling me to use commands involving the search key as a modifier, but these seem not to work as any use of the search key invokes #Google #Gemini. What's going on here? Additionally, how are #blind people using #Chromebooks? In what tasks do they excel. In what tasks do they fall short? Any input and/or information would be greatly appreciated.

got a hand-me-down 'thin client' chromebook I'm looking to repurpose into a beater laptop I can throw in a bike bag without much concern.

looking for appropriate desktop environment / window manager setups for

+ 4G memory & 8G disk, both slow and precious space
+ cramped screen: display bars, tiling, much beyond full-screen application windows isn't necessary
+ offload most control to CLI/TUI, don't need GUI widgets for network etc.

One of my team found this #Chromium #Chromebook bug today. Seems to be model & hardware specific (Lenovo Chromebook S330 with MediaTek, but not other model Chromebook with MediaTek)

Ein wenig grobe Arbeit mit dem Schraubenzieher, ein wenig Schreibschutz aushebeln, ein wenig Firmware flashen, ein wenig Linux installiere -- und schon ist ein HP Chromebook x360 entgoogelt und läuft über Ubuntu Mate. Der Touchscreen funktioniert auch immer noch.

Well, that worked. My old and slightly tired Chromebook is now enjoying a second youth as a dapper Linux laptop, running Pop!_OS. My favourite distro Kubuntu turned out to be a bit too much for it.
