#Meta and #Yandex are de-anonymizing #Android users’ web browsing identifiers

The bypass—which Yandex began in 2017 and Meta started last September—allows the companies to pass cookies or other identifiers from #Firefox and #Chromium based browsers to native Android apps for #Facebook, #Instagram, and various Yandex apps. The companies can then tie that vast browsing history to the account holder logged into the app.

@marjolica @utf_7 @dashjackson @froge @arstechnica It'll impact any application that uses #Windows' #CryptoAPI and doesn't come with it's own #Encryption Library and #CertificateManagment.

Needless to say all #Chromium variants and #IE / #Edge are vulnerable to this #Backdoor which exists since at least #WindowsXP to this day!

  • Thus consider said #OS inherently unsafe!

#Firefox is no longer the beacon of light it once was. #Mozilla has failed us. Everything else is pretty much based on #Chromium.

However - there is hope for the #Internet browser market: #Ladybird.

A #FOSS browser made from scratch.

And before you comment about Andreas' controversial posts - yes, I know. Calm down. It's irrelevant. I am not here to promote personal politics of anybody, I am here to promote free and open-source technology that can save the #web ❤️

Here’s an overview of the programs I use daily or weekly and highly recommend. All of these applications are free and #opensource #software (#FOSS), ensuring #transparency, #privacy, and user control:

🧩 #Brave
Privacy-focused #Chromium #browser blocking ads, trackers and has fingerprinting protection.

🦊 #LibreWolf
Firefox fork emphasizing privacy and security, removing telemetry and DRM.

🔐 #KeePassXC
Cross-platform #passwordmanager securely storing passwords and sensitive information.

📧 #Thunderbird
Free #email client supporting multiple accounts and including calendar and task manager.

📄 #LibreOffice
Powerful office suite with applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.

Great news, I got an inscrutable error coming out of the millions of lines of code and build configurations 💀 #chromium is quite a beast.

I screwed up the JNI code somehow so at least I have a clue for where to look.

#Chromium trying to be helpful: "Chrome is moving towards a new experience that allows users to choose to browse without third-party cookies."

But of cause it does not tell which request this warning triggered.

Automation of filling browser forms? No sweat. My app Browser Actions lets you focus text fields, set values, and even automatically handle complex forms using macOS Shortcuts, in #Chrome, #Chromium, #Brave, #Vivaldi, #Edge, and #Safari.

You can, for example, pass all your form fields and their values as a dictionary to BA's Set Form Fields action, and it will find and set the form fields for you. Saves time and nerves! ✨

ICYMI, a while back I did release my #macOS app, Browser Actions.

BA lets you use #Apple #Shortcuts to automate #GoogleChrome, #MicrosoftEdge, #Vivaldi, #Chromium, #BraveBrowser, and #Safari – with actions for navigating, working with forms, clicking page elements, handling windows & tabs, getting data out, and more!

14d trial, perpetual licenses, no subs.

(I'd really appreciate some boosts ♻️ – it's hard to get new apps noticed, and I'm struggling quite a bit 😬)
