I’ve recently had to push through my stuff to tackle clutter at home. Simple things like having visitors, or getting tired of putting them off, calls my attention to my challenges. For me I think the ultimate issue is that the idea of having to potentially interact with others while I’m decluttering causes anxiety and derails me. So instead I do it in the middle of the night, like grocery shopping.

Prescribed burn in the the Valley of the Giants gone wrong
Save the tourist infrastructure not the national park?

"A plan to protect tourist infrastructure has resulted in an estimated 180 large trees falling over. Western Australian authorities say the planned burn was carried out east of the Valley of the Giants precinct to protect visitor infrastructure. While the tourist hub was untouched, conservationists say the fire has been "catastrophic" for a nearby section of bushland, and the outcome should have been predicted."

A quotation from Christie, Agatha:

«
I sidled through the doorway. It was necessary to sidle since precariously arranged books impinged more and more every day on the passageway from the street. Inside, it was clear that the books owned the shop rather than the other way around. Everywhere they had run wild and taken possession of their habitat, breeding and multiplying and c…

I'm doing a "1-In / 3-Out" thing for a while to trim down my stuff.

* For every new thing, get rid of 3.
* Don't have to be the same size. Goal is a reduction in number of things, not mass.
* Handful of little stuff is "1 thing" out. Prompts to toss old receipts, dry erasers, etc.
* 2 empty "in case" boxes count as 1 thing out.
* A "collection" is 1-thing. "1 collection of pens"

* I have a little notebook dedicated the process

Blogkino: In Cold Blood (1967)

#Thriller #FilmNoir In Cold Blood

This is where the magic happens. My writing space is appalling, but it works. My desk is stacked with writing notes, unwrapped Christmas presents, books, jewellery, snacks, meds, supplements, stationery, art supplies, computers, and weird witchy stuff like candles, bones, feathers, wasp paper, perfume oils, and pieces of trees. And yes, that is Baba Yaga's hut up there, just below the deer skull. I made that hut for a stop motion project several years ago. It needs some minor repair work. I'll get to it sometime. Maybe.

I only burn the candles when my workspace is neat and tidy. I don't know if I've burned them at all this year. #workspace #clutter #WritingCommunity

"Cosily curated Japanese clutter-spaces are different. There is a meticulousness to the best of them that is on a par with the mental effort poured into simplifying something: a deliberate aesthetic decision to add, rather than subtract – sometimes mindfully, sometimes unconsciously, but always, always individually."

An Aeon #essay by Matt Alt on the #minimalism and #clutter of #Japan: aeon.co/essays/the-life-changi

AeonThe life-changing magic of Japanese clutter | Aeon EssaysThe world sees Japan as a paragon of minimalism. But its hidden clutter culture shows that ‘more’ can be as magical as ‘less’

My poor cat decided to leap from the back of my chair onto a table that's piled unreasonably high with clutter. When her forefeet touched the clutter pile, they caused an avalanche; and the cat started to fall. I'd been petting her and so my hands were right there, & I tried and succeeded in catching her and holding onto her.
But that meant she couldn't jump out of the way of the falling papers & half-finished crochet projects and fortunately only one book. She wasn't harmed at all, but she was scared; & I think I should have just let her jump out of the way on her own - she's a *cat*, after all. And so I feel guilty as hell.
