#Comet Holmes from the #Hubble Space #Telescope
Comet 17P/Holmes' dramatic brightening remains a mystery. Its dust coma, illuminated by the Sun, is visible in the night sky. Hubble's images reveal a dense dust cloud near its nucleus but no clear fragmentation. Astronomers worldwide continue to investigate this curious phenomenon.

"#Ukrainian good drones!"
From https://t.me/The3rdForceUA
In the morning in #Cheboksary, drones attacked the #VNIIR_Progress company at the #ERF.
At least two powerful attacks on the plant are known, after which the company suspended work.
#JSC "#VNIIR" manufactures #Comet antennas, a key element of protecting #Russian drones from #Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.
In total, 49 good drones were allegedly shot down over the #ERF during the night.

M27: Not a #Comet
Messier 27, or the Dumbbell Nebula, is a planetary nebula formed from an expiring sun-like star. Over 2.5 light-years wide and 1,200 light-years away in Vulpecula, it glows from UV-excited atoms. This image captures both its detailed core and faint outer halo through hydrogen and oxygen-sensitive filters.

#Comet Pons-Brooks Develops Opposing Tails
Comet Pons-Brooks sports two tails: a blue ion tail pushed away by the solar wind and a dust tail trailing its orbit, affected by sunlight pressure. Captured from Namibia, it was recently closest to Earth and is now visible in southern skies.

British Comet tanks move through the streets of a devastated town - Germany, March 1945.
The Comet tanks were made in a Lancashire town called Leyland by Leyland motors. The number of employees went from under 500 in 1939 to over 3000 by 1944. Founded in 1896 and despite many ups and downs the company still manufactures today with around 1000 employees #ww2 #comet #tank #comettank #germany #britisharmy #leylandmotors #leyland #lancashire

Did a glancing blow from the #Comet Swift-Tuttle carve out #TheGreatLakes?
Really enjoyed this #Space presentation by #PaulFellows. It gives me a new appreciation for Lake Michigan and Earth’s eternal tourist, #SwiftTuttle.

Clouds, #Comet and Crescent #Moon
Comet PanSTARRS emerges in the northern hemisphere, captured with a day-old Moon over La Palma's William Herschel Telescope. Though less spectacular than expected, it's becoming more visible and will rise farther from the Sun in evening skies.

The Inner Coma of #Comet Holmes
Comet Holmes, visible in Perseus, shows detailed streamers in its coma, likely from nucleus jets. Remaining bright at magnitude 2-3, it outshines many stars. This image was captured using a rentable 0.38m web telescope.

#Comet 67P from Spacecraft Rosetta
Rosetta spacecraft orbits Comet 67P, imaging its dusty, gas-emitting surface. Despite its bright appearance in photos, the comet's surface is coal-dark, reflecting only 4% of light. Spanning 4 km, its low gravity could let an astronaut leap off. After a close solar pass, it's now heading towards Jupiter's orbit.

The #comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann is most likely in a strong outburst: https://groups.io/g/comets-ml/message/33698 -> "I imaged this comet earlier today and noticed a condensed inner coma of 0.4' in diameter with classic outburst appearance."

#Comet Hyakutake Passes the #Earth
In 1996, Comet Hyakutake dazzled as the brightest comet in 20 years, coming within 0.1 AU of Earth. Its long tails were visible against a starry backdrop including the Big and Little Dippers. The comet's last visit may have been witnessed by early humans 17,000 years ago. It won't return for another 100,000 years due to gravitational deflection.

Perplexity AI Eyes Launching Browser to Challenge Google https://www.byteseu.com/1006185/ #AI #Apple #ArtificialIntelligence #comet #GenAI #GenerativeAI #News #Perplexity #PYMNTSNews #What'sHot
#Perplexity AI is launching its #Comet browser, aiming to compete with Google Chrome by offering context-aware responses and integration with Google services.
Comet will include privacy features like ad-blocking and data-sharing opt-outs.
However, I recommend staying away from these browsers and using privacy-respecting options like Firefox (to combat the Chromium monopoly) or Brave.
