Sounds like the EU is scoping out CPTPP membership in response to the US becoming so unreliable. Very wise.

But also funny - as the UK joining CPTPP looked like (and was) an act of sheer desperation. I mocked it at the time - gravity and the shallowness of the arrangement made it no substitute for European trade.

And, you know, I was right to mock it, but if the EU joins too then it's accidentally become good policy. Funny old world.

Canada, Mexico and Japan are amongst 12 member nations of CPTPP, the successor to TPP which was aborted when USA under Trump1 withdrew.
