I am happy to report that my trip to <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Augsburg?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Augsburg</a> last week was a treasure trove for anyone who loves <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/doors?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#doors</a> (aka yours truly)! I only had an hour to explore the old town, but I found so many lovely doors. So behold, here's a badass one! ☠️ This is a <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/door?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#door</a> of the <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Stadtmetzg?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Stadtmetzg</a>. Can you guess what this listed <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/historicBuilding?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#historicBuilding</a> used to be? It was built in 1609 as the <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/butchers?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#butchers</a>' guildhall! I imagine it was deemed too refined for the messy process of slaughtering (this was done in the vicinity), but it was used as a central butchery to store and distribute meat to the city's butchers, using the Lech canal underneath to cool the meat in the basement and dispose of the waste. The site burned down in 1634 and was rebuilt. In 1720 the Academy of Art moved into the upper floors (very random, I know). With the industrialization, the Stadtmetzg was losing importance and in 1930 it permanently closed. After renovations, it was used as an administrative building by the city of Augsburg. In WWII it was severely damaged, but once again restored. Today it is still in use as an administrative building. This photo is from the same line in a different part of <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Biederitz?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Biederitz</a>. This 500m (0.3mi) <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/railroadBridge?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#railroadBridge</a> across the Elbe floodplain and the Ehle river has become a listed <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bridge?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bridge</a> and even has its own Wikipedia page (in German). It was built in 1846 and large parts of it are still original. It was closed in 1998 and is now barricaded due to deterioration, but the bridge continues to be a prominent landmark in the area.
