ADOC agreed to settlements in nearly 100 lawsuits alleging corrections officers left inmates with broken bones and brain damage. State taxpayers are footing the bill.

> Forty-five percent of the lawsuits detailed injuries so severe that the victims required hospitalization, ranging from lacerations requiring stitches to broken bones, many requiring surgery.
