Today's #ThursdayFiveList theme is #CaliforniaDreaming. These are the first five California songs that I came up with:

"Earth Angel", occasionally referred to as "Earth Angel (Will You Be Mine)", is a song by American #doowop group #thePenguins. Produced by #DootsieWilliams, it was released as their debut single in October 1954 on #DootoneRecords. The Penguins had formed the year prior and recorded the song as a demo in a garage in #SouthCentralLosAngeles. The song's origins lie in multiple different sources, among them songs by #JesseBelvin, #PattiPage, and #theHollywoodFlames.

"Sh-Boom" ("Life Could Be a Dream") is a #doowop song by the R&B vocal group #theChords. It was written by James Keyes, Claude Feaster, Carl Feaster, Floyd F. McRae, and William Edwards, members of the Chords, and was released in 1954. It is sometimes considered the first doo-wop or #rockAndRoll record to reach the top ten on the pop charts (as opposed to the R&B charts), as it was a top-10 hit that year for both the Chords (who first recorded the song).

Today's theme for #ThursdayFiveList is #AllAtSea. There are so many great candidates for this topic that I ended up with two lists - this is the first one:

Phil Phillips & the Twilights: Sea of Love (1959)

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is a song originally written and first recorded in 1939 by #SolomonLinda under the title "Mbube", through #SouthAfrican #GalloRecordCompany. In 1961, a version adapted into English by the #doowop group #theTokens became a number-one hit in the United States. It earned millions in #royalties from cover versions and film licensing. Lyrics of Linda's original version were written in #Zulu.

"Book of Love" (also titled "(Who Wrote) The #BookOfLove") is a #rockAndRoll / #doowop song, originally by #TheMonotones. It was written by three members of the group, Warren Davis, George Malone and Charles Patrick. Lead singer Charles Patrick heard a #Pepsodent toothpaste commercial with the line "you'll wonder where the yellow went"/ "when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent", which inspired him to come up with, "I wonder, wonder, wonder who.
