A quotation from Euripides

MESSENGER: Nothing is more useful to mankind than a prudent distrust.

[ἌΓΓΕΛΟΣ:                    σώφρονος δ᾽ ἀπιστίας
   οὐκ ἔστιν οὐδὲν χρησιμώτερον βροτοῖς.]

Euripides (485?-406? BC) Greek tragic dramatist
Helen [Ἑλένη], l. 1617ff (412 BC) [tr. Coleridge (1891)]

A quotation from Hannah Arendt

The total moral collapse of respectable society during the Hitler regime may teach us that under such circumstances those who cherish values and hold fast to moral norms and standards are not reliable: we now know that moral norms and standards can be changed overnight, and that all that then will be left is the mere habit of holding fast to something.
Much more reliable will be the doubters and skeptics, not because skepticism is good or doubting wholesome, but because they are used to examine things and to make up their own minds.
Best of all will be those who know only one thing for certain: that whatever else happens, as long as we live we shall have to live together with ourselves.

Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) German-American philosopher, political theorist

Religion isn’t Sacred , Your Curiosity is!

We've been told since childhood that #religion is #sacred. That it must never be questioned. That #faith is a #virtue and #doubt is dangerous. But what if we've misunderstood what really deserves our reverence? In this video, we explore why religion has been treated as untouchable—and why it's your #curiosity, not ancient #dogma, that truly deserves to be sacred.

All #Religions Can’t Be Right, But They Could All Be Wrong!

What if your religion isn’t the one true path, but just the one you happened to be born into? When every religion claims to be the truth, but they contradict each other, what does that say about the whole system? This is where #doubt begins and honest #thinking starts.

Visiting a person in an old folks home today and she opined that she ‘had to give them the benefit of the doubt’. I suggested to her this might be an old fashioned approach to life since people nowadays tended to judge others quite quickly. It’s an interesting thought that her doubt as to their character/actions was a benefit to them, a positive doubt not a negative one. Comments welcomed, points awarded for being amusing. So, a #poll #PleaseBoost #doubt #linguistics #SocialLinguistics
I apply tge ‘benefit of the doubt’ to others:

"Right Here, Right Now" is a song by British #alternativeRock band #JesusJones from their second studio album, #Doubt (1991). It was released as the album's second single on 24 September 1990. Although it spent only nine nonconsecutive weeks on the #UKSinglesChart, peaking at number 31, it became a top-10 hit in the United States; it topped the #Billboard #ModernRockTracks chart and reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 1991.

When those “Whatifs” get really loud in your ears & make you question your life choices…

Those who grew up with Shel Silverstein poetry books in the classroom or home probably get the reference. For those who haven't or barely remember, let's just say it's all-too-appropriate for my day today...
