In EN, the word "work" comes from "do." In FR, "torture." Think about the difference in perspective. I do. It comes up as a US leftist in France, trying to communicate my ideas. In Pravic (I recently finished The Dispossessed by Ursula K. LeGuin), same word for work & play. In Ecotopia, the protagonist remarked on how work and play seemed to go hand in hand. Think on that. It's a koan, maybe.

I'm an anarchist. And with that I have faith that in the right circumstances, people are generous & solidaire & good & helpful & everything. Si viajo con la imaginación hacia el futuro e intento conocer a dónde nos ha llevado la crisis ecosocial, me encuentro siempre volviendo al presente con más preguntas. Una de las más inquietantes es la pregunta por la identidad de lxs humanxs que hoy vivimos y nuestro papel en esta historia. ¿Nos recordarán como lxs “buenxs ancestrxs” de Roman Krznaric? La pregunta por el futuro es la pregunta por el tipo de persona que queremos ser hoy.

Finished Ecotopia. It was an interesting experience. Found myself smiling at the end of it. The hope for a better world that pervades it, and the things that people will do to get there.
I wish it actually had a chance of happening.
