Reading an essay in a prestigious journal by a multiple-prize-winning novelist, and it's so clunky it's hard to read—the kind of thing that would make me break into a sweat if I had to edit it. Gotta wonder if this is what her writing looks like in the raw, or whether an editor f'd it up. #editing

Just saw this error in a "professional" article and I've been seeing it quite a bit lately, so here's your sporadic reminder that "every day" means something that's done daily (eg. "She writes every day.") whereas "everyday" means it's common or standard ("Coffee was part of her everyday routine.")

I both love and hate #editing. I love it because I usually enjoy reading my own stories and improving them bit by bit. And I hate it because I'm happy with the text except for ONE WORD that takes 3 fucking hours to replace.
