@ColinTheMathmo Hu, I just installed the extension on GNOME and downloaded the KDE connect app on my phone. I made sure both were connected to the same network, and it worked.

Everyone and their mom has a #Wifi232 to get their #VintageComputer online, but I wounder if there's a #wired (#LAN) option instead.

Basically being an "#Ethernet #Modem"...

Background: In my area, 2,4 GHz WiFi is so overcrowded that it's basically unuseable and also because Ethernet is more reliable.

Ideally it can be powered via #PoE to enable #WakeOnLAN / #WakeOnDialin....

I don't mind if it looks like a MAU but with like a unmanaged 4-port Gigiabit Switch for #10Base2 / #10Base5 - lookalike "passthrough" and internal 10 MBit/s port so it can be used to directly link units or be hooked up to a switch. Similar to FriendlyNet

Bonus points if it still supports 10MBit/s @ Cat.3/ single pair and 100BaseVG, but regular Fast Ethernet & #Gigabit Ethernet via Cat.5 and up is more important. (Maybe do like 2x #SFP ports at the sides and 1x 8p8c #RJ45 at the front ?)

So technically it's closer to a DEC DELNI than real AUI but if someone wants to implement an #AUI and even add a an AAUI adaptor cable I'm not gonna tell anyone not to.

@lea TBH, I think it's a fundamental mistake that vendors use #RJ45/ #8p8c connectors for #RS232.

They should've either used "#RJ50" / "#RJ48" / #10p10c or use #USB over #4p4c or #RS485 over a #2p2c connector instead just to make shure that people don't mistake that #serial port for a #Managment-#NIC.
Unless it actually is an #Ethernet port.

@lymenzies From my own experience I can tell that even the Original #RaspberryPi and #PiZero can run #RaspberryPiOS all day long and will run circles around the orginal #EeePC701, only getting beaten by the #Vaio #P11Z when it comes to #RAM and #IO options.

Granted a #CM4 or #CM5 with > 2GB RAM will shift the tides but those alone cost more than a used #Wyse3040 and #upcycling a #ThinClient into something like a tiny luggable is propably more budget friendly and useful anyway, espechally since built-in Gigabit #Ethernet and #USB 3.0 really kick ass, so you'd propably be better served doing some #PoE / Wide-Range DC-in & battery setup to make good use of the oversized build volume at hand.
Maybe take some "THICC" 21700 LiFePO4 cells or one of those #LiFePO4 motorcycle batteries for a spin? Pretty shure that you can sqeeze battery runtime measured in DAYS out of it without much tweaking.

I have several and they are excruciatingly slow. Hard to believe I used to use Linux on a 386 with 4MB of RAM, but maybe I was more patient then. I'll try building OS1337 when I have a moment.

Der Vergleich bei shared Medium wie (V)DSL(2+), DOCSIS & ((x)G)PON trifft, zu. Kaum wer hat #Glasfaser per #Ethernet mit OS2-Faserpaaren vorliegend.

The chap who did it originally doesn't seem to be trading any more and he was difficult enough to find. Of notable value may be the #IrLAN stack, given that it's designed to tunnel #Ethernet through a 4Mbit/s FIR link.

I'm pretty sure that the same can be applied to visible light without much of an issue...
