Ford blows a hearty Bronx cheer at EV foes -- and Tesla, too.
Ford says it's cracked the code on cheap EVs, thanks to more streamlined manufacturing processes and lithium iron phosphate batteries that the company says are more durable, faster charging and more affordable than what it currently uses. There will be more use of automation and robots, but the company declined to specify how this compares to current manufacturing. Ford announced a "family" of low-cost vehicles that will be made in Kentucky, starting with a four-door mid-sized pickup that will arrive in 2027 and will cost $30,000. Here's more from @theverge.

If Ford makes a smaller, more affordable pickup truck, and most importantly, it’s an EV, then I’m interested.

If fire risk is the standard, shouldn't fossil-fuel vehicles be the first to be banned? Not e-bikes on trains?
Lithium battery fires are rare. Victoria’s proposed e-bike and e-scooter train ban punishes clean mobility, ignoring the far greater fire and safety hazards of petrol-powered transport.

A re-evaluating road tax is inevitable but doing it in a vacuum with only considering #EVs will cause problems. Ask Victoria.
What is introduced will have to be for all vehicles.

Yet again the UK government is busy making a mess of subsidies. Instead of supporting actual low end EV, Quardricycle and Ebikes they are bunging vast amounts of money into getting well off people to move from one problem sized tin can to another. They could pretty much hand out Ebikes for the same money or offer Citroen Ami and similar vehicles at prices the less well off could afford

I don't like some of this article -- no one in their right mind wants "an ecosystem of digital services" for their car. But the article is correct that Chinese #EVs are destroying the German car industry on their way to doing the same in the US.
Chinese cars are taking the auto world by storm. But the US and Canada are being left behind.
On a recent trip to New Zealand, I decided to see what we’re missing by taking a few for a spin. US automakers won’t be able to hide behind tariffs for long.
