The Crooked Way (1949)

Never heard of it, don't like the poster. Old mate in the middle looks more like Alfred E. Neumann than a tough guy.
The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)

poster language: German
Lots going on here, I love the car flying off the cliff. The beach image is so sketchy it's distracting. Lana Turner's cigarette looks pasted on.
Ooh, “in the web of passion” is the German version? Women as spiders, not surprised.
I started typing "Im Netz" into google translate and it said "online" which was a weird little moment.

The Pretender (1947)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pretender_(film)
This is … ambitious I guess. It's dramatic and the clash of colours is strong. But on the other hand it's disjointed and tells us nothing about the movie.

The Mark of the Whistler (1944)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mark_of_the_Whistler
Messy, ugly, confusing? You be the judge. I don't love this one but it seems like they pumped out tons of these Whistler movies back in the day, everyone was just phoning it in.
The Night of the Hunter (1955)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Night_of_the_Hunter_(film)
This movie is not for the most part about psycho-sexual/marital tension but this poster plays that part up I guess. Two other actors featured, both of them female, and curiously, a tiny hint that some kind of outdoorsiness is involved.

Panic in the Streets (1950)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panic_in_the_Streets_(film)
I like the sketchy, hand-drawn vibe here but does it detract from the seriousness of the movie? It looks almost fun.
It's something of a hard sell, this one, as it's actually a rather preachy piece about a pandemic/the plague and has almost none of the classic Noir elements.
