kurtsh<p>My son got a GoPro for Christmas. He asked me, "Dad, do you have a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/flashcard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flashcard</span></a> I can use for my new camera?"</p><p>My old 32GB <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/microSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>microSD</span></a> that I paid over $200 for years ago had errors so I went online to buy a new one:</p><p>$39 for 512GB.</p><p>I consciously know flash memory <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/prices" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>prices</span></a> halve every year but never in my WILDEST DREAMS did I expect half a TB for the price of a light LA dinner - so small I could accidentally swallow it.</p><p>(Note: I still recall being stunned by the 256K RAM chip back in 1982 so...)</p>
James Scholes<p>Are there any <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/flashcard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flashcard</span></a> apps for <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/languageLearning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>languageLearning</span></a>, specifically for vocabulary, that are <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/screenReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>screenReader</span></a> accessible? <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dragonscave.space/@zersiax" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>zersiax</span></a></span> You mentioned the Anki web UI in your language learning guide; I'm wondering if there have been any developments since then? <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a></p>

Emory Roane<p>I know it’s a long shot <a href="https://techpolicy.social/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fediverse</span></a> but does anyone have a (n ideally <a href="https://techpolicy.social/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> and <a href="https://techpolicy.social/tags/selfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosted</span></a>) <a href="https://techpolicy.social/tags/spacedrepetition" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>spacedrepetition</span></a> or <a href="https://techpolicy.social/tags/flashcard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flashcard</span></a> app / <a href="https://techpolicy.social/tags/Anki" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Anki</span></a> alternative they recommend? Currently using AnkiApp on iOS and it’s not bad, but I’d like a self hosted web app that lets me get more granular data about, eg, failed cards, keep it all in-house, not worry about privacy policies, etc.</p>
CarK :python:<p>Hi <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/OER" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OER</span></a> bubble.</p><p>Are you aware of decks (i.e. collections) of digital flash cards which are free (like in <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/floss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>floss</span></a>) to use?</p><p>I am thinking of prototyping a web app and look for some typical and proven content.</p><p>Also, free to use <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/flashcard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flashcard</span></a> decks might be interesting for other people too.</p><p>:BoostOK:</p>
Helix :unverified:<p>After I had so many issues with the free and otherwise awesome <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/flashcard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flashcard</span></a> learning app <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Anki" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Anki</span></a> (sync, crashes, losing track of what I already learned) they also don't seem to understand what a <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/GPG" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GPG</span></a>/#PGP keyserver is used for.</p>
Axel Rauschmayer<p>Are there any good <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/flashcard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flashcard</span></a>/quiz apps that are:<br>* Open source<br>* Cross-platform and offline<br>* File-based (vs. one big container into which you import data)</p><p>Why file-based? I store each deck of cards (=topic) in a Markdown file and I update those files often. With a file-based user interface, I find it easier to always see the current state and to switch between decks.</p>
