"Finnish-ing School" teableau for 04/30/25

The little vintage plate was made by Arabia Finland, depicting a traditional costume of Häme, Finland. There is a series of five of these dishes showing different areas of the country but I only have this one.

#Ceramic artist Kristyn Rohrer has a solo show coming up at #BaltimoreClayworks, opening reception July 12.

"Conscientious Objectification" questions: What does it mean to be a conscientious objector in contemporary American society? Drawing inspiration from Pennsylvania Dutch #FolkArt and personal history, Rohrer tells the story of reclaiming and redefining their relationship to #Mennonite culture and utilizing ceramic #art as a tool for social commentary.

Part 2 of my introduction. I want you to know what you are getting into choosing to stick around.

I know, the dolls I make are not for everyone. I've seen a lot of confusion and even fear in the eyes of those looking at my dolls. I've also received plenty of compliments and there are a few people who collect my dolls. The biggest collection of my dolls lives in Germany with a witch who collects dolls made in the image of a witch, mythical creatures and goddesses. She currently owns about 100 of my dolls (and more made by other artists).

To be honest, it's the people who own my dolls who have opened my eyes to a doll as an important part of personal self-development and powerful vessel in spiritual practices. I knew nothing about it when I started. They are rarely just a decoration. Mostly they serve as companions, affirmations, expressions of the self and vessels of thought. And I love to talk about it all too. This is the vibe in my SiltiCrafts Witch Town. Yeah, I have a name for that mental space they come from and arrive to - it's Witch Town (although not all of them are witches).
