tjhowse<p>Sad: The delete button on my <a href="https://howse.social/tags/frameworklaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>frameworklaptop</span></a> stopped working.</p><p>Rad: Their support team sent me a link to a keyboard test website that lets you play a fun tune during testing.</p><p>Fortunately the keyboard is held down by five screws and a single connector, so its trivial to replace. Apparently there was a manufacturing defect in the first few batches that they've resolved with new input covers.</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xb-xFVHzqOY" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">youtube.com/shorts/xb-xFVHzqOY</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://keyboard.frame.work/test" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">keyboard.frame.work/test</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Linh Pham<p>I just realized... it's been a lot closer to a year since I've started the process of switching from macOS to Linux as my daily driver.</p><p>In about two weeks, it'll be a year since I got my <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@frameworkcomputer" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>frameworkcomputer</span></a></span> Laptop 16 and started installing and setting up the, then, KDE spin of Fedora 40.</p><p><a href="https://linhpham.org/blog/2024/two-weeks-with-framework-laptop-16/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">linhpham.org/blog/2024/two-wee</span><span class="invisible">ks-with-framework-laptop-16/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://linhpham.org/blog/2024/migrating-from-macos-fedora-framework-laptop-16/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">linhpham.org/blog/2024/migrati</span><span class="invisible">ng-from-macos-fedora-framework-laptop-16/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://linh.social/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> <a href="https://linh.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://linh.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a></p>

cukie<p>Anyone have experience with color calibration on linux? Specifically with gnome?</p><p>The gnome docs suggest a pantone huey is the best supported and cheapest option. I can find them on ebay for around $20. scy<p>Of course you shouldn't lift it at a dangerous acceleration, but I found that if it's fast enough so that the lid/screen is a bit more open than it was before (due to inertia) afterwards, there's a good chance that I produced a click. (_Please_ don't damage your screen hinges while trying this!)</p><p>I wouldn't say that it's an "issue", but it's certainly good to know :)</p><p>I'd love to hear from anyone who's able to reproduce this with their own device!</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop13" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop13</span></a></p>
scy<p>Hey <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> 13 owners: I had a strange issue where video playback would sometimes stop once I physically moved the laptop, e.g. from the couch to the desk.</p><p>Turns out I can click my touchpad&nbsp;– from below.</p><p>To reproduce, grab the laptop (lid open) with one hand, with your thumb next to the touchpad and the other fingers on the underside of the case, opposite to where the upper half of the touchpad is, as pictured. Your grip should feel safe and secure.</p><p>Now, quickly lift the laptop.</p>
scy<p>I have to say: The Framework Laptop 13's 2.8K display is _great_ to edit photos. High resolution, can be very bright if you need it to, and apparently excellent color reproduction.</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop13" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop13</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>photography</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/PhotoEditing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PhotoEditing</span></a></p>

Royce Williams<p>If you are plugging a portable USB-C powered monitor into a Framework 16 laptop and the monitor keeps rebooting ... it's not getting enough power.</p><p>You have to use a USB-C module that's plugged into one of some specific sockets -- the <del>two</del> four "furthest back" on either side, kinda closest to where you would normally expect to power a laptop. The front two won't work.</p><p>And: "Ports 1,2,4,5 are shared on a first come first serve basis. So they are 1.5A by default, but one port from any of these can negotiate 3A over PD. Once that is taken, the other ports are limited to 1.5A. Ports 3,6 are 900mA."</p><p>There's a flyer that comes in the box about this, but I didn't make the connection (pun intended) until the symptom popped up.</p><p>And a KB article: <br><a href="https://knowledgebase.frame.work/expansion-card-slot-functionality-on-framework-laptop-16-rkUjGm7cn" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">knowledgebase.frame.work/expan</span><span class="invisible">sion-card-slot-functionality-on-framework-laptop-16-rkUjGm7cn</span></a></p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Framework16</span></a></p>

Stefan<p>The hardware of the new Framework Laptop 13 is amazing! But I'm still struggling with the Linux support of the new system with the Ryzen AI 300 series CPU. I wanted to install a Debian-based desktop system but it's hit-and-miss:</p><p>* MX Linux (Xfce, ahs): Boots but terrible HiDPI support for the 2.8K display<br>* MX Linux (KDE, ahs): Doesn't boot at all<br>* Linux Mint Debian Edition: Boots but doesn't recognize mouse and keyboard<br>* Linux Mint: Works out of the box</p><p>I guess I stick with Linux Mint for now even though I wanted to avoid an Ubuntu-based system...</p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>framework</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/frameworklaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>frameworklaptop</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/linuxdesktop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linuxdesktop</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/amdryzen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>amdryzen</span></a></p>
