As a Freemason I found the following passage about our teachings exemplary of why I joined

MASONIC TEACHINGS

[...] extend charity and sympathy to all mankind, shield and support the widow and orphan, defend virtue, respect the aged, honor the bonds of friendship, protect the helpless, lift up the oppressed, comfort the downcast, restore dignity to the rejected, respect the laws of government, promote morality, and add to the common stock of knowledge and understanding.

Bond will return in ...
"James and the Giant Genocide"

James has to ensure delivery of a shipment of 2,000lb yield bombs BUT a group of annoying young women (possibly lesbians!!!) have got splatters of paint on them! With the help of a Human Rights lawyer, who has become Prime Minister (somehow???), he manages to get the girls locked-up for at least 9 years so that his allies can continue to blow-up hospitals and schools.

Can a coalition of his greatest foes stop him!?! But, his foes are all criminals and terrorists, aren't they?!?

(In this one, he's gone full-out #Freemason Royal Navy commander Diplomatic & Parliamentary Protection Service nutsack and is doing ALL the genocides. 🇬🇧👍)

As a second degree mason (so very new to #Freemasonry ) I have to say, I am very impressed with the quality of the people and their stated values. I particularly like the requirement for study of religion and the study of the sciences and arts. Very few organizations are wise enough to put importance on both.

The requirements to join Freemasonry I find particularly noble:

  • Must be of good moral repore
  • Must study and learn the arts & sciences (Math, Astronomy, music, language, and logic are specifically listed).
  • Must believe and study god or a higher power.
  • Must treat his fellow man with compassion and love

Was given a lovely #Pennsylvania Past Master bolo tie by my new friends and brothers at the local #Freemason lodge last night. As opposed to the more common and #Maryland symbol which is compasses and a quadrant to represent the application of moral principles in appropriate measure, the PA symbol is #Euclid’s 47th proposition and the importance of geometry and measurement in the builder’s trade.

@grammargirl Okay, very much in left field here, but the Freemasons had an outsized impact on both US and French history.

Have any #Freemason ritual terms or even shibboleths entered into common usage? I can think of one or two plausible examples but you know more about etymology than I do.

"Hoodwink" seems unlikely but "to give the third degree" seems plausible. That's about all I can come up with.

127 years ago today, #Freemason #Filipino-Chinese Dr. José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, was executed by #Spain's #Spanish overlords, and Roman #Catholic Church priests, in the #Philippines.

On December 30, 1896, he was walked from his prison in #Intramuros to Bagumbayan (later called: #Luneta and then #RizalPark) in #Manila. It's more or less 2 km by [modern] road.

The main/primary monument for Rizal is located 100m SSE of where he was shot by the #Spaniards.

There's this French esotericist named Rémi Boyer, and he has been writing some fascinating #Rosicrucian and #Freemason stuff from the perspective of the Rectified Scottish Rite. I got to talk to Michael Sanborn, who has been translating Boyer's work into English, and our conversation explored the Doctrine of Reintegration, and the fascinating story of Martinez de Pasqually. It's pretty heady and full of mystical wisdom and strange tales. Enjoy!
