Dane :Debian: :OpenBSD: 🍵<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://discuss.systems/@cmccullough" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>cmccullough</span></a></span></p><p>This is why I'm open to the concept of source-available and post-open licenses, although I'm not totally sold on it.</p><p>Bruce Perens (he's on here, though maybe not super active) was one of the innovators of the original Open Source definition, and he's trying to come up with a post-open license that would prevent feckless (yes, I have to add a negative adjective) corporations from profiting off of open source devs' work.</p><p>I don't know how well it'll work, though.</p><p>I mean, AFAICT, the entire push behind <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> was to take <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/freesoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FreeSoftware</span></a> and separate it (<em>somewhat</em>) from its idealism and sell it to corporations. Now you'd like to un-sell it and make it even more restrictive.</p><p>Bon chance. I don't know how that'll work. (But I would <em>like</em> it to!)</p>
