⚯ Michel de Cryptadamus ⚯<p>Financial Times piece on $1.4 billion in shaky accounting on <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Tesla" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tesla</span></a>’s books is… whoah. </p><p>Due to the reality of British libel laws and <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/ElonMusk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ElonMusk</span></a>’s propensity to sue his detractors i have to assume this is one of the most heavily legally vetted and fact checked things you will ever read. (Also not unreasonable to suspect there might be other tidbits of information the lawyers wouldn't sign off on being published - that happened a *lot* with FT's Wirecard investigation)</p><p>p.s. the FT reporter is <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/DanMcCrum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DanMcCrum</span></a>, whose decade long crusade to take down the <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Wirecard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wirecard</span></a> fraud is one of the more insane stories you can read on the subject of accounting based forensic journalism (McCrum wrote a book about the experience called “Money Men”). Trust me, it's more exciting than it sounds. There's Russian spies and shit.</p><p>* FT: <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/62df8d8d-31f2-445e-bfa2-c171ac43db6e" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">ft.com/content/62df8d8d-31f2-4</span><span class="invisible">45e-bfa2-c171ac43db6e</span></a><br>* no paywall: <a href="https://archive.ph/CqQ9W" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">archive.ph/CqQ9W</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>(h/t <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@Lazarou" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Lazarou</span></a></span>)</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/FT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FT</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/FTAlphaville" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FTAlphaville</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/TSLA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TSLA</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/TSLAQ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TSLAQ</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/TeslaTakedown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TeslaTakedown</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/uspol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>uspol</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/eupol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>eupol</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/DOGE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DOGE</span></a></p>
Hughster<p>I had feared that this would be the inevitable result of loads of newbies getting caught up in the November-December Mastodon influx, enthusiastically self-hosting their own public Mastodon instances without really thinking about costs, laws, maintenance and moderation. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FTAlphaville" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FTAlphaville</span></a></p><p><a href="https://archive.is/vx6Sk" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">archive.is/vx6Sk</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Tony Yates<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://econtwitter.net/@robinwigg" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>robinwigg</span></a></span> I don't think you need a server to do that. It could give you guarantee of continuity if you can guarantee not to give it up; and it would allow you to have your own moderation policies. A simple reader community could be got going with a hashtag <a href="https://econtwitter.net/tags/ftalphaville" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ftalphaville</span></a> or something like that. If you want to bring toots or tooters together you'd need some mechanism like that to make FTAlphaville content distinctive and findable.</p>
