I wanted away from relying on large corporates who are stealing my data & using it to train AI. I don't necessarily subscribe to the conspiracy theories, but my data is mine and I want to chose who/how.

Linux is Open source, as are most of the apps. Which means they are open to public scrutiny on exactly what data they are using.

It also runs well on older hardware so your PC/laptop does not start to slow down after two years on Windows, forcing you to upgrade.

I am not updating to Windows 11 for those reasons. My W10 laptop was expensive and I am not buying a new one. I'm tired of the M$ money grab. With Windows 10 coming off support later this year, I'm done. /rant

The security has been compounded by the AI in Windows. I keep having to go into settings and turn off things that get "updated" and then attempting to uninstall them. #genchat
