John Englart<p>Here in Australia: Kangaroo grass (Themeda Triandra) is a keystone species for ecological fire management according to the Ecological Society of Australia.</p><p>"Regular burning maintains kangaroo grass abundance.<br>Where kangaroo grass abundance declines and is replaced by less flammable herbs and leaf litter, fires do not spread until fuels are drier. Burning under dry conditions can damage trees and increase the density of woody plants that may fuel future intense fires."</p><p>Outlines importance of regular cool burns for maintaining ecosystem integrity and reduce fire risk.</p><p>In a warming climate we need to adopt indigenous practices of more cool burning which nurtures the landscape.</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/Wildfires" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wildfires</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Bushfires" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Bushfires</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Grassfires" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Grassfires</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/KangarooGrass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KangarooGrass</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/FireManagement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FireManagement</span></a> <br><a href="https://www.ecolsoc.org.au/?hottopic-entry=kangaroo-grass-is-a-keystone-species-for-ecological-fire-management" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">ecolsoc.org.au/?hottopic-entry</span><span class="invisible">=kangaroo-grass-is-a-keystone-species-for-ecological-fire-management</span></a></p>

John Englart<p>After all the flooding rains in Australia this past year we still face elevated fire risk for Summer 2022 according to the AFAC summer outlook. Fuel loads are elevated (All that rain has stimulated growth) while fuel reduction has been difficult to undertake. More likely to see <a href="https://c.im/tags/Grassfires" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Grassfires</span></a> than Forest fires, but grassland fires can move quickly and can be just as deadly. <br><a href="https://c.im/tags/Wildfire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wildfire</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/bushfire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bushfire</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Australia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Australia</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/fireweather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fireweather</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/climatechange" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>climatechange</span></a> <br><a href="https://takvera.blogspot.com/2022/11/after-all-flooding-rains-we-still-face.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">takvera.blogspot.com/2022/11/a</span><span class="invisible">fter-all-flooding-rains-we-still-face.html</span></a></p>
