The RSGB LoRa balloon challenge has been so popular that we’ve updated the manual (now v 1.7) with two new links to help you find a LoRa board to buy for the challenge – happy building!

Read the manual, and find out more about the challenge via rsgb.org/lora-balloon

Tonight I had 4 full size fire trucks come screaming down my road, lights and sirens, and stop right across from my house. 2 first- responders went down the 2 roads to the beaches beyond. I stomped out there asking what the hell was going on. It was a little freaky. Apparently, they got a call about a huge beach fire that was out of control but didn't know which way to go or if the call was legit. Every call is taken seriously. After about an hour (the 4 big trucks idling there the whole time) they left. Not sure if they found anything. Back in the house I realized that 3 years ago, I had programmed the fire dept. frequency into my hand held so I could listen when they basically said nothing found and returned to the 2 fire halls. All week I've been listening to the other fire frequency for wild fires. It's good to know what's going on in and around the hood.

We tried using a Flex 6400 at G3PYE for the #rsgb 80m SSB contest a couple of weeks ago for the first time - only to find no audio from the headset mic.

Two headsets, same problem. Headset on the Elecraft K3 worked fine.

Just found the issue: Sennheiser connect tip to ring on the mic jack. Flex connect ring to shield on the mic socket.

Solved with a short adaptor cable which I must now try not to loose before the next contest... #hamr

Today, during the Support Your Parks Weekend, I went to Jacobipark #DE0260 in Hamburg and completed my #POTA activation with 19 QSOs on 20 and 40 meters. Conditions were mixed. I brought a 60 W solar panel with me to test the effect of the MPPT charger on the radio. Result: no interference! And yes, at some point I became too lazy to keep putting the panel in the sun... The battery was full, and the shade was pleasant. This made it bearable even at 30 degrees Celsius.
