Eva the sewing historianMy very insane handsewn 1810s outfit. It is based on a French fashion plate. Including the insane bonnet, which I made from two straw hats that I unravelled and sewed together. <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/historicalcostume?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#historicalcostume</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/regencycostume?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#regencycostume</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/regencyfashion?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#regencyfashion</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sewing?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sewing</a>
Epochs of Fashion<p>Comparing Francois Boucher’s portrait of Madame de Pompadour and an 1860s Victorian fancy dress costume which clearly references the painting! While the visual characteristics of the mid-1700s gown are taken on board - such as the pink bows and the open-front mantua construction - the Victorian costume is very firmly Victorian. <br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/fashionhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fashionhistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/history" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>history</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/costumehistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>costumehistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/historicaldress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>historicaldress</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/historicalcostume" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>historicalcostume</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/18thcentury" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>18thcentury</span></a></p>

I've been working on a muslin today and I ~think~ I'm figuring it out, but I'd love to see a real life iteration. Greensleeves update!
We have silk satin for the "gown..of the grossie green...sleeues of Satten hanging by" described in the song.
Ninya Mikhaila will make the gown, when we've worked out what it looks like...

To motivate myself to do a tedious part of a new sewing project, place your gaze upon these WIP shots of my 1780s or so Redingote that I sewed entirely by hand.

I was planning to just do the redingote but then figured I could also do a matching petticoat from the scraps of fabric that I cut out because they took the dye unevenly. I managed the entire petticoat with just an unreasonable amount of piecing, and I almost got the stripes to match on it!
