HP reveals $24,999 hardware created just for Google Beam https://thever.ge/gJtH #Google #News #Tech #HP
@musevg Wann kam das Gerät raus?
Weil oft stellen Hersteller die #Ersatzakku|produktion mit den Geräten ein.
Ist es wenigstens nen Akkupack aus Rundzellen? Weil da wäre wenigstens irgendwie nachbau- bzw. reparierbar...
One thing I'd love to do is bring back #HP #calculators using modern hardware. Most especially the HP-1x series (12, 15, 16) and the HP-41CX.
@cesarpose @mrmasterkeyboard depends on the model and #hp has something more sinister:
I literally had this with a client in the past and it's the reason a #refurbisher I know didn't offer RAM-#Upgrades for HP machines at all…
@mrmasterkeyboard #GlareScreen|s aside (which isn't your fault but #hp's) I'd say totally fine!
#Ubuntu is a good choice as #Desktop #Linux #distro when you want to hand this to someone who may not be as "#TechLiterate" but then again the "full" install comes with #LibreOffice, #Thunderbird and #Firefox so all the #Normies' needs are fulfilled.
#Repair & #Reuse is always better than #Upcycle and espechally #Recycle, and getting a decent #OS on that machine and the screen fixed really made it useful...
Rescued and repaired a #HP EliteBook 840 G7 over the last day. Had a bent screen and 8GB RAM running W11 that took a minute to start.
Grabbed a screen and another stick of RAM to make 16GB (same RAM) from a broken donor of same model which was dropped yet screen was fine.
Slightly dented in some areas but great condition overall in my opinion.
Threw #Ubuntu 22.04.5 on the 256GB M.2. Arch is overdone and Gentoo isn’t worth it.
Lemme know what you think about this!
God do I hate #printers:
My #hp printer was working fine, I opened the toner tray that now suddenly doesn't close properly anymore and it now only prints black sheets. It's probably because the toners aren't correctly positioned, but I already took all of them out and even without any toner cartridge, it doesn't close properly anymore.
Let's hope anyone want to fix this thing as it has practically full toners. I'm sick of printers. My #brother one is still working at the moment.

Someone at #HP needs a hard kick in the butt!
The key for <>| that always been to the left of the Z-key, is now replaced by a wider Shift-key. And <>| moved to the L-key.
The real crazy thing is how to actually type them:
- FN + L = <
- FN + AltGr + L = |
But for > it has to be in this specific order:
- Shift + FN + L = >
That's because:
FN + Left Shift = FN-Lock
FN + Right Shift = Print Screen
Those this layout are for sure not affected by their own stupidity!

Yay HP have bricked our printer (hopefully temporarily) because we stopped paying a subscription for ink we didn't need.
Anyone know if I can get a cartridge that'll get the printer going or do we need a new printer?

Wie sieht eure Liste so aus?
So someone in FLOSS #DeltaChat group said #ARM #SBCs are terrible at computation power. And that a #miniPC has much better computation power comparing to something like #RaspberryPi. I had plans for a #homeserver and I wanted to use my #LibreComputer #Alta and utilize its #npu.
Libre Computer boards have really good prices comparing to the performance they provide comparing to other ARM SBCs such as #RPi. However, comparing them with a mini or even #microPC, an old micro PC provides better computation power.
LibreComputer #RenegadeElite features a #Rockchip #rk3399, 4GB DDR4 and costs 76 USD:
https://libre.computer/products/roc-rk3399-pc/
On the other hand, this renewed #HP #EliteDesk is 100 USD and with far better specs:
https://www.amazon.com/HP-EliteDesk-Mini-Desktop-Computer/dp/B08L9NB7RD?rnid=2257851011&th=1
Maybe it's not fair compare a renewed product with a brand new one. But it seems for having a homeserver to #selfhost things, if we factor out power usage, an old mini PC is better than a new ARM SBC.
However, if we also consider power usage, the abovementioned LibreComputer board consumes only 15 W under full load. And the old Ryzen 5 on that HP mini PC has a TDP of 35 W. This affects running cost of your homeserver and also the cost for the #UPS. But for myself, there isn't a big deal between 15W and 35W.
Edit: Comments or advises are very welcome!
@Sirs0ri np.
I can recommend the "upcycling" & "reuse" route given #ThinClients offer decent performance for a mini server and more often than not are completely fanless, making them excellent at home.
It's not that I don't say any other brand is bad, but those brands have been reliable to me and are known to use reliable & new components and not new-old-stock or "upcycled" chips ripped from older machines and sticks.
whoa shit i am configuring an #HP z-series workstation, or rather i was - DDR5 memory for newer Xeons is expensive af right now they want close to $4K for 128GB of memory.
as a consumer it feels like price tags are all completely arbitrary
I was listening to Linux After Dark (or was it Friday Night Deploy?) and it was asserted that 8th gen intel is no longer the gold standard for daily driver laptops in the used market.
What do you think?
