Ellie KennardI think I'm going to have to stop listening to "Framed" by John Grisham and Jim McCloskey. I can't bear it any more. If you still have any faith at all in the justice system (in the US in this case, but probably anywhere), reading this will soon disabuse you of that illusion. I get it. And I have listened to several of the stories. But it is simply too painful to carry on, especially knowing this kind of injustice is running rampant now. I need to try to sleep and this isn't helping.If you're waiting for the audiobook from Halifax library, have at it. Michaela MayaSlewfoot by Brom was a great listen - bewitching in the best sense of the word. The brutality of the Puritans is hard to digest, but knowing that it really happened that way makes it even more enraging. Maria Langer | 📝 🎬 ⚒️🛥️Just finished "reading" (as an audiobook) "The Wager." It's about an 18th century shipwreck at the Drake Passage. I heard about it on NPR and thought it would make a good drive "read." I wound up listening to most of it while doing mindless chores around the house. It's an interesting saga of stupidity and blindly following orders with a dose of politics, imperialism, and white supremacy. Michaela Maya"It's eat or be eaten""The Starving Saints" by Caitlin Starling wasn't what I expected it would be - but I still wasn't disappointed by this enticing, fast-paced, vivid story of false idols and (CW) cannibalism. The second half gets a bit too trippy for my taste and I feel it doesn't quite tie up all lose ends. But it's an exciting ride nevertheless. It is a literary fiction Sci Fi novel, set in a near future Unified Korea, where biotech has blurred the line between robot and human. I find the premise intriguing, particularly the exploration of identity and agency.
