I'm locked out of my mom's Computershare account for an infuriating reason (another time). Comparing the price of her shares now from 2/5/25, when I tried to log in to sell shares for her (because I *knew*):
As of yesterday's close, they were down $12,494; as of today's close, down $22,900 -- they've lost almost 20% of their value in 2 days. (These shares are Dupont and spinoffs, from my dad's benefits.)
I mention this not for sympathy, but to put out a real-life example.

DT administration fires staff of program that helps low-income households pay for heating

"The DT administration has laid off the entire staff of a $4.1 billion program that helps millions of low-income households pay for heat during the winter, unnerving state officials who are now wondering whether they will still receive millions of dollars in expected federal payments."

The US backing itself into a corner & throwing away allies with its trade wars and wrapping itself up in a warm blanket of paranoia..

So, the idiot administration in the US has released their "reciprocal tariffs" that aren't actually reciprocal.

An economist figured out where they got their bogus percentages from; it would be amusing in its stupidity if it weren't so serious. No one involved understands what a trade surplus or trade deficit is, or what it means.

But they also announced rates on "countries" that aren't countries, just territories of another nation.

They announced rates on islands that have 0 human inhabitants, and 0 economic activity, and therefore cannot possibly have a trade surplus with the US.

They announced a tariff rate on an American military base.

It is a clown show.

The question is: where did they get this bogus data from?

Was their big chart of tariff rates generated by an #LLM?

"Among those aghast at the breach was the Democratic representative Pat Ryan, an army veteran who sits on the House armed services committee who described it using the second world war-era epithet “Fubar” – meaning “fucked up beyond all recognition”."
