There are currently two types of #search #indexers on the fediverse.
Those using the #ActivityPub protocol as designed. Adhering to privacy/noindex settings, implementing deletes, blocklists etc.
And those that simply crawl all public data (and RSS feeds) like ordinary crawlers.
The first are easily detected, because they don't operate in secrecy. They get hate from a few bullies. Their authors often cave under that bullying.
The second are left alone and continue indexing.
This is dumb.
Dear #indexers of #indexodon - since we don't have private DMs on Mastodon (or Post!) yet, or private groups -
I just tested out the idea of the Twitter Circle on Twitter - just a very small place for specifically Canadian indexers. Let me know if you saw the tweet. I've only put a few in because I only know a few of you on Twitter (it's for me having Canadian questions about the business, etc.)
Twitter Circles are private to those the owner put in the circle, no one else sees the replies.
Just started in on another #index today. Always exciting!
It’s that #INDEX book again. (This is getting silly now.)
After being in TIME magazine’s and the Washington Post’s top books of the year lists, Dennis Duncan’s ‘INDEX, A History of the’ (for which I did the, er, index) is also one of the ‘100 Notable Books of 2022’ in the New York Times. Go Dennis, go #indexes, go #indexers.

Hello/helô!
@sesamescholar Best practices for #indexing are available from certifiedindexers.com (Institute of Certified #Indexers) and asindexing.org (American Society for #Indexing). If you can't hire a professional #indexer, I would recommend you check those out. Both are free.
Best advice I can give: take your time and think about your readers, those who have read your work as well as those who are new to it. How might *they* look things up??
